The Congress has proposed the name of Vishwa Poudel, a member of the committee formed to recommend the name of the governor and the former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, as the governor. Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed Paudel's name as the governor in a meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar on Saturday with the top leaders of the ruling Congress and UML.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Congress President Deuba reached an agreement three weeks ago to make Rashtra Bank Executive Director Gunakar Bhatt the governor. Bhatt resigned as executive director on May 5 based on the agreement reached on May 3. However, after Rashtra Bank's Permanent Governor Neelam Dhungana did not accept Bhatt's resignation, sources informed that Chairman Deuba proposed Paudel's name as an alternative. There is an agreement to be taken by the Governor's Congress on the two-party divide.

Prime Minister Oli, Congress President Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar, Foreign Minister Arju Rana and other leaders participated in the Baluwatar meeting. In the meeting, there was an agreement to appoint the governor soon, the Home Minister said. There is no dispute on the appointment of the governor, the procedural complications at the National Bank have led to delays. Now the governor will be appointed within a week," said the writer.

If there is an agreement between the two parties, Paudel will have to resign from the recommendation committee first. Then the government can appoint another member in his place. A meeting of the Council of Ministers has to be held to accept the resignation and appoint another member in his place. Only then will the way to recommend Paudel to the governor be opened. According to Baluwatar sources, this process will be done from next Monday's cabinet meeting and it is expected that new appointments can be made by Thursday.

Paudel was a member on behalf of experts in the recommendation committee led by Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel. Apart from the finance minister, there is a legal provision to have one ex-governor and one expert member in the committee. After the resignation of Vijaynath Bhattarai, who was appointed as a member by the former governor, the government appointed outgoing governor Mahaprasad Adhikari as a member in his place. Bhattarai resigned expressing dissatisfaction with the working style of the two parties in the appointment of the governor.

Even in the functionary meeting of the Congress held on Friday, Deuba informed that there was a situation that an alternative name had to be put forward because Bhatt's resignation was not accepted. "There is no obstacle for the Prime Minister to get a governor from the Congress, but if Bhatt's resignation is not accepted, another person will have to be moved," Deuba said in the meeting.

Congress spokesperson Prakasharan Mahat said that if Bhatt's resignation is not accepted in the office bearer meeting, there was a discussion about moving another person as an alternative, but there was no discussion about who would be.
