Those traveling through the Narayangadh-Muglin road must have seen the machine cutting the hill on the wall across the river Trishuli near Muglin. The stone and mud that came out of the hill fell directly into the Trishuli river. Tej Bahadur Sherchan, ward president of Ichchakamana rural municipality-5, a resident of Muglin, said that the dust covered the Muglin market a few days ago. After all, why is the mountain cutting being done?
Despite the widening of two lanes as per Asian standards after the expansion, landslides on the Narayangarh-Mughlin road during the rainy season continue to trouble commuters every year. When the Narayangadh-Muglin road, the main road connecting the capital Kathmandu and the tourist city Pokhara with the eastern and western parts of the country, is blocked by landslides, there is talk of building another road parallel to it through Trishuli. At present, the work of embodying the same discussion has started.
The builders have started work by making an agreement with the Divisional Road Office of Tanahun Damauli. Even though a lot of dust is blown while cutting the mountain, the parallel road work is being done very little. Engineer Rajendra Karki, who is the information officer of Damauli's divisional road office, said that the target is to open only about four kilometers of road tracks this year. The distance of the parallel road is around 24 km.
Engineer Karki said that the work has started from this year for the alternative auxiliary highway that starts from the southern part of the hill of Ambukhaireni rural municipality-4 of Tanahun and passes through Gaighat, Dasdhunga, Thimura, passing through Trishuli river and exiting Gaindakot, although it is on a small scale. On January 23, an agreement was signed with the builders for the first four kilometers of road work.
Anbukhaireni rural municipality also started digging tracks at this place. Engineer Rajendra Karki, who is the Information Officer of Damauli's Divisional Road Office, said that only the work of widening it and putting up a wall will be done this year. He said that the alternative auxiliary highway will also be 11 meters wide. "Only if the place is difficult, otherwise this road will be 11 meters wide," he said.
This work has been agreed to be completed by June 25. Although the cost estimate is Rs 2 crore 69 lakh, a contract agreement has been signed with the construction company that will pay Rs 1 crore 26 lakh. Milan Bhujel, Ward President of Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality-4 says that it is good that the federal budget has come to build a road in that place, which is also a priority of the rural municipality.
'But the stones cut from the mountain fell directly into the Trishuli river. It should be arranged,' she said. Rajendra Karki, engineer of the divisional road office, said that during the monitoring on Friday, the stone and mud coming out of the hill digging should not be dumped directly into the river but should be stored somewhere. There is also a place where it cannot be dumped, it must have fallen directly into the river. Otherwise, there is no other place like that," said Engineer Karki.
