Nepali Plywood, which has stopped exporting due to renewal of 'Bureau of Indian Certificate' (BIS), has started going to India again. Earlier, India blocked Nepali plywood at the border by using BIS renewal as a pretext, due to which exports were stopped.

Earlier, 34 truckloads of Nepali plywood, which were stopped at the customs at Panitanki in India while being exported from Nepal to India, were returned to Nepal after 24 days after non-exportation. Now plywood has started to be exported to India.

After 10 plywood industries received BIS renewal, exports started, according to Nepal Plywood Manufacturers Association President Hom Prasad Ghimire. At present 6 industries are producing plywood and exporting it to India. As 4 industries received renewal only two days ago, they are also preparing for export.  Ghimire said that Greensai Plywood Industry Biratnagar, Century Plywood Industry Biratnagar, Everest Plywood Industry Itahari, Bhusal Plywood Industry Butwal, Savaria Plywood Industry Jhapa and Shyam Plywood Industry Bhairahwa are now producing and exporting plywood. Three plywood industries in Jhapa (Ambe, Sanjivani and Jhapa Plywood Industries) have received renewal and Ganapati Plywood Industry in Dang has also received renewal. Among these, three industries in Jhapa have started preparing for export, while Ganpati Plywood Industry in Dang is stopped due to fire, so it is not producing.

Ghimire, the president of the Plywood Producers Association, says that 80 plywood industries have been established across the country. Among them, 47 industries applied for export to India. Of these, 10 have been acquired and 37 industries are in the process of acquisition. He said that Nepal is the market for industries that have not applied for renewal.

"Although there are many industries, some industries are small, but the plywood produced by some industries is being consumed in the Nepali market," Ghimire said, "The industries that applied for renewal were exporting plywood to India before." He said that the quality of plywood produced in Nepal is better than in India. He said that if the government of Nepal takes proper initiatives, the remaining 37 industries will also get renewal soon.

'Even though exports are open, they are not what they used to be. Earlier 30-40 trucks used to reach India, now only 3-4 trucks are going to India. However, exports opened up. We are delighted as industrialists," said Ghimire.
