One lakh 39 thousand 579 foreign tourists have entered the world-famous Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) from last July to Phaganu for trekking. Which is 30 thousand 169 more than the same period of the previous year.
According to the head of the project, Dr. Ravin Kadaria, the maximum number of 33,310 tourists visited the area last November. A total of nine thousand and 34 tourists entered 'Acap' in January.
Kadaria, the head of the project, said that there has been an increase in tourist traffic since February. He said that the number of tourists will increase during this period as Chait-Baisak is considered best for trekking. Last year in Chait, 35 thousand 265 tourists visited the Annapurna region, the highest number of the year.
The number of hikers coming to this area is less during the rainy season and winter. Project leader Dr Kadaria said that October-October and Chait-Vaisakh are considered the best time for trekking.
According to the statistics of the last three years, the number of tourists in the area has increased every year. In the year 2079/80, one lakh 72 thousand 108 tourists entered 'Acap', in the year 2080/81 two lakh 22 thousand 180 tourists visited the area. Since there are four months left for the end of the year, the project office estimates that the number of tourists will increase in the current year as compared to last year.
'The number of tourists has increased in every month of the current year compared to last year,' said project leader Dr. Kadaria, 'Tourism in this area has returned to its old rhythm, the number of foreign tourists coming to visit and hike by road is increasing.' Although most of the Indian tourists going to Muktinath and other destinations use the road, tourists from other countries prefer walking.
'Acap' keeps only the statistics of foreign tourists walking on the Annapurna cycle path. Dr. Kadaria, the head of the project, said that the number of domestic tourists who enter Mustang, Manang and other places by road cannot be counted. Annapurna cycle path has been chosen by tourists from all over the world.
Annapurna Cycle Path, Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal in Kaski, Sikles, Lwang, Ghandruk Village, Tilicho Lake in Manang, Thorangla Bhanjyang, Upallo Mustang, Muktinath Region, Ghodepani in Myagdi, Punhil etc. are visited by millions of domestic and foreign tourists every year.
Attractive destinations with snow ranges, tourism-friendly infrastructure, climate, hospitality of local people and service facilities have made Annapurna cycle trail known as the best destination in the world for trekking. According to 'Acap', short, medium and long distance trekking in Annapurna region can be done through Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, Myagdi etc.
89 wards of 16 local levels of Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, Myagdi and Mustang are included in the Annapurna conservation area spread over seven thousand six hundred square kilometers.
