29 new bridges on Butwal-Narayangadh section, Dumkibas bridge in final stage

After the collapse of the bridge at Dumkibas of East Nawalparasi on the east-west highway on December 26, traffic is being diverted. Because of this, the passengers have to take a winding and winding road. If this bridge is not constructed until next monsoon, the journey on this road section will be affected, so the construction has been accelerated.

As it takes a lot of time to repair the bridge that has been washed away, work is being done at full speed to complete the bridge that is under construction. The slope work of the 250 meter long bridge is in progress. In addition, 29 new bridges have been constructed in the eastern section under the Butwal-Narayangadh road expansion project.

Shiv Khanal, information officer of the road extension project, said that 29 of the 34 bridges to be built from Daunne to Gandakot have been completed.

"Along with road paving, the bridge construction work has also gained momentum," Khanal said,   "Since some old bridges are dilapidated, work is being done to be able to build them before the rains."

In this section, 12 bridges longer than 25 meters and 22 bridges up to 25 meters in length are being constructed.

So far, all the bridges up to 25 meters have been constructed and traffic has also been operated in some of them.

According to the project, the construction of all bridges will be completed in the current financial year, except Girubari river and Arunkhola bridge in Chormara of Madhyabindu municipality. As most of the bridges are about to be completed, traffic is expected to ease in the coming rains. Out of 114 km road, 70 km four lanes, 29 km four lanes with 6-6 meter service lanes on both sides are being expanded. At present, as the work of cutting the hill is going on in Daunne, the traffic operation is inconvenient. Passengers have to face traffic jams for hours to cover a distance of 14 km. Apart from the south, the project said that work is going on in both the western and eastern sections.

From Chait 27th, traffic is being closed and repairs are being carried out on the Downne section. Currently, the administration is going to stop the vehicle operation because the work of cutting the mountain, putting up a wall and constructing a culvert is going on in the Downing section.

Due to the risk of damage to vehicles in the dust and pits and during the road expansion, the road expansion work will be stopped from Chait 27 to 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and next Baisakh 1 to 15 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

East and West Nawalparasi district coordination committee heads, district administration, security agencies and stakeholders have decided to repair and construct the road after conducting an on-site inspection of the southern section on Saturday. It now takes 5 to 6 hours due to traffic jams to cross 14 km of the lower section. Passengers have to suffer due to dust and traffic jams in the lower part of the east-west highway under road expansion.

With the beginning of summer, the road is so muddy that the vehicle in front cannot be seen. As the road is in the process of expansion, hill cutting, culverts and bridges are being constructed, traffic is jammed in this section every day.

Police inspector Janak Banjara, head of the district traffic police office, said that there is some problem in traffic management in Daunne due to road expansion work. He said that traffic police have been mobilized in Daunna section for traffic management. Due to traffic jams and dust in this section, private vehicles travel from Butwal to Kaligandaki Corridor section via Palpa.
