In the last seven months of the current fiscal year in Nepal, the number of mobile phone charger imports is one and a half times more than that of smartphones. According to the data of the customs department, the number of smartphone imports was 12 lakh 29 thousand 957 while 3 lakh 2 thousand 859 mobile chargers were imported between July and January.
During this period, smartphones worth a total of 18 billion 98 million 13 lakh 55 thousand rupees have been imported. According to the department, the government has collected a revenue of 3 billion 53 crore 97 lakh 34 thousand rupees from this. When 3 million chargers were imported, there was a turnover of 422.5 million 35 thousand rupees. From this, the government has collected a revenue of 12 lakh 99 thousand 40 rupees.
Most smartphones in Nepal are imported from China. During this period, about 13 billion rupees were spent on 9 lakh 53 thousand 216 smartphones. From this, the government has received more than 2.42 billion in revenue. Similarly, due to the import of 272 thousand 66 smartphones worth Rs 5 billion 62 crore from India, the government has received a revenue of Rs 1 billion 482 thousand. According to the data of the department, the highest number of mobile phone chargers are imported from China and India.
Recharge cards in Nepal are imported from India. In the last seven months, 18 thousand 931 kg recharge cards worth Rs 1 crore 4 lakh 49 thousand have been received. During this period, there has been a significant increase in the import of SIM cards. 10 lakh 71 thousand 481 SIM cards have been imported and a transaction worth Rs 4 crore 79 lakh has been made. 1 crore 16 lakh 52 thousand rupees has been collected from this.
146 thousand 782 memory cards have been imported during this period. From this, 1 crore 64 lakh 44 thousand transactions have been done. According to the data of the department, the government has received revenue of Rs. 4 million 37 thousand from the import of memory cards. The import of power banks (battery packs) used to charge mobile phones is 199 thousand 38 units in the last seven months. It has a turnover of 11 crore 74 lakh 69 thousand rupees. From this too, the government has raised a revenue of Rs 5 crore 13 lakh 3 thousand.
