The mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall panel placed on the seventh side of Gwarko overpass has been removed. Wall panels placed at a distance of 40 meters have been removed and re-installed. Deep Barahi, director of quality, research and development center under the road department, said that after a gap was found in the panel placed on the ramp, it was repaired.
"A gap was seen in the panel placed on the seventh side of the overpass," he said. "Now the work is being done, the errors seen earlier have been rectified," he said, "the construction business is committed to be able to work within April."
After repeated deadlines, the company that took the contract failed to do the work, and the work was done with a fine from last December 10. The construction business stopped the work from December 18 saying that there was no working environment from the contracting agency.
Although the work of overpass construction has been started from February 2078 to be completed within two years, it has not been completed yet. Earlier too, the work was stopped for four months due to rain.
Its contract was taken by Ashish-Parallel-Religer JV for 176.688 thousand rupees. According to the initial agreement, the construction of the overpass should be completed by February 12, 2080. But after the work was not completed within that time, the deadline was extended for the second time until June 2081. As the work could not be completed within that time, the deadline was last December 9. If it was not completed within that time, the work was carried out with a fine from December 10. A 540 meter long overpass will be built with a
traffic structure. Even though the work of making the ramp has started by placing concrete panels and special type of 'Polymer Reinforcement' at the sides, it has not been completed. The
ramp will be up to 10.2 meters high. Construction progress on the overpass is 82 percent so far. 13 months into the contract, work was halted due to design issues. It has been contracted under the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
In this, the work from design to construction should be done by the contracting company. After technical problems were noticed during construction, the businessmen stopped the main work and 'revised the design'. As the construction of the overpass is not completed on time, those who commute through Koteshwar-Kalanki are forced to suffer daily traffic jams.
