Swearing in by Bhattarai, Member of Electricity Regulatory Commission

Member of Electricity Regulatory Commission Bhagirathi Bhattarai Gyawali has taken oath. Bhattarai, who was appointed as a member of the Commission by the Council of Ministers meeting held on February 26, took oath in the ministry today in the presence of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka.

Ram Prasad Dhital, chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, administered the oath to him.

Bhattarai, who previously served as a member of the same commission from 2076 to 2081, took oath today for the second term. She was a member of the commission when it was established and at the same time worked as the coordinator of the Electricity Consumer Rights, Interests and Protection Committee. She was a member of the Water Tariff Determination Commission from 2069 to 2073. She was previously an independent director of Global IME Bank.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka mentioned that the regulatory commission has been completed even though it is late and said that as the production increases, the responsibility of the regulatory body also increases. 

'The government has set a target of producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity by the year 2035, the responsibility of the regulatory body is even greater to fulfill that target,' he said. Minister Khadka said that while bringing the private sector in the construction of the transmission line, the commission should decide on the fee to be given as soon as possible. He said that the commission should also study how electricity can be provided at subsidized rates to those who purchase more electricity.

Suresh Acharya, secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, requested that the importance and role of the regulatory body is increasing in recent times, so that their knowledge, skills and abilities can be applied to the commission to the maximum extent. Ramprasad Dhital, chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, mentioned that the commission is working to fulfill the goals of the energy development roadmap taken by the government.  Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi, Ministry's senior energy expert Prabal Adhikari, Director General of Power Development Department Naveen Raj Singh, members of Electricity Regulatory Commission and others participated in the

program.
