130 million paid by the contractor who has stalled the work, only 45 percent work
Due to the negligence of the construction company, the bridge under construction on Kaligandaki river in East Nawalparasi has been incomplete for 9 years. The concrete bridge work has stalled after the contractor was out of contact.
The contractor, whose work has been stalled, has received payment of 130 million. Bridge construction was started in 2072 on the Kaligandaki River to connect Bulingtar in East Nawalparasi and Rising Rural Municipality in Tanahun. Engineer Vidur Subedi of the Bridge Sector Office, Pokhara, said that only 45 percent of the work has been done in the 9 years since the construction of the bridge started. He said that the contractor company has already taken payment of Rs. Subedi says that even when he sent a written letter to the contractor company many times for the construction of the bridge, he failed.
'So far 45 percent of the work has been completed. 130 million has already been paid,' he said, 'Tarantar contractors for the construction of the bridge do not hesitate even when writing a letter.'
3 companies took the contract to work jointly for the bridge construction According to Engineer Subedi of Bridge Sector Office Pokhara, the work could not be completed because all the three contractor companies that were given the responsibility did not come in contact. Lumbini, Swachhand and Nagarjuna Construction Company have taken responsibility for joint work at a cost of 268.2 million rupees.
Engineer Subedi informed that the contractor company did not come to work despite being given the responsibility of construction by adding one year of time last Baisakh. In the 9 years since the work started, only 4 pillars have been erected in Kaligandaki. After the construction of the 290 meter long and 10.5 meter wide bridge has been stalled, the locals are facing problems in transportation. "It has been so many years since the work started, the contractor does not come," said Surya Kandel, a local.
This bridge is necessary to reach Tanahun via Kawasoti, Daldale, Kokhe roads of Mahendra Highway.
The construction of this bridge has started at Kokhe in Bullingtar-4 under the Kaligandaki Corridor. The ghat bank of the river Kaligandaki, one hundred meters north of Kokhe Bazar, is called Gadgadighat. From Gaindakot, Kawasoti and Daldale via Arkhala Kokhe to reach Bhimad Pokhara, the road becomes shorter after crossing this bridge. Passengers going to Pokhara from Gaindakot, Kawasoti and Daldale are currently passing through Dedhagaon, 13 km west of Kokhe, to reach Bhimad Bazar in Tanahun.
