Nepal Trade Union Congress, a well-wisher of Nepali Congress, has demanded to ensure proper representation of workers within the party.

Nepal Trade Union Congress held a press conference on the decision of the National Council held on February 21 and 22 at Bode in Bhaktapur and demanded to ensure the representation of workers in the legal structure of the Congress in accordance with the seven-point agreement reached with the party in the fifth congress.

The agreement was signed by the then President of Congress Sushil Koirala and Lakshman Bahadur Basnet on behalf of Nepal Trade Union Congress. The council meeting demanded that legal arrangements be made for the full implementation of the Labor Act in all labor sectors including banks and financial institutions, public service sector and other establishments applicable to the labor sector and tourism and hotel sector.

Union president Yogendra Kumar Kunwar informed that the meeting decided to take initiative with political parties, government and stakeholders for the provision of a separate 'cluster' for workers in the constitution. The meeting drew the attention of the government to bring Nepal out of the "Grey List" and to establish financial discipline in the country, government reform and identity as a well-governed country.

The union has called the attention of the government to rewrite the Trade Union Act, 2049 in a timely manner, and the government is working to determine the wages of workers in tea plantations, working journalists and other sectors in a tripartite agreement. Likewise, it has also demanded that all workers in the informal and self-employed sectors be included in the social security scheme.

General Secretary of the union Ajay Kumar Rai informed that the meeting passed the proposal to establish labor court to ensure speedy resolution of labor disputes, judicial rights and access of workers. The meeting has drawn the attention of the government to establish labor and employment centers at all 753 local levels across the country to ensure the trade union rights of Nepali workers and to ensure fair and orderly employment.

Even though the country has been federalized for a long time, the Federal Civil Act, the Education Act and the Health Act have not been passed by the Parliament. For the protection of labor rights and the effective implementation of labor laws in Nepal, the gathering has demanded to expand the labor office, increase the institutional capacity of labor administration, and make the labor audit and labor inspection system regular and effective.

The two-day meeting has drawn the attention of the government to ensure that workers' wages should be provided at the time of work, to create an environment to re-operate closed industries, and to arrange arrangements for workers working at home and abroad to vote from the workplace.

In this union, which has more than 453,000 members across the country, it was informed in a press conference that 500 councilors including 450 councilors and 50 observers including the presidents of 27 national affiliated associations, all seven state associations, 77 district associations and 500 councilors participated in the press conference.
