The import of electric cars from this point has decreased due to the absence of a charging station at the integrated security check post in Birgunj, the point where most vehicles are imported. Compared to the end of January of the last financial year, the import of electric cars through this channel has decreased drastically during this period of the current year.

According to the data of Birganj Customs Office, only 17 electric jeeps, cars and vans were imported through this border during the review period. When 17 such vehicles worth 60 million were imported, a revenue of 80 million rupees was collected.

In the same period last year, 314 electric vehicles worth 67 crore rupees were imported. From which 32 million rupees revenue was collected.

Birganj Customs Office Information Officer Amit Tiwari says that the main reason for the decrease in the import of electric vehicles through this checkpoint is that there is not a single charging station in the integrated security check post premises. "Even though the Integrated Security Checkpoint is modern and has been operational only about 7 years ago, it does not have a single charging station," he said.

Tiwari said that due to this problem, most of the importers have changed the port of EV import and gone to Bhairahwa and Rasuwa Customs. "Since most EVs are imported from China, it is easy to import them through the Rasuwa border," he said.

Although there is no charging station in the Bhairawa customs complex, after passing the inspection, three to four charging stations are easily available on the Bhairawa-Butwal road section, he said. When such vehicles enter from any point, they are kept at the customs point for at least 2/3 months and the inspection process is done.

During that period, the charge of most EVs has been reduced. In such a case, the battery of those vehicles should be charged at a quality charging station. Tiwari said that there were also complaints from importers that some EVs that were charging from here to Kathmandu were stuck on the road due to lack of standard charging stations in Birganj area.

ICP He has requested the department to construct a charging station in Birganj premises immediately.
