Nepal Electricity Authority has earned a profit of Rs 11.36 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year. The authority earned a total of Rs 70.44 billion from electricity sales, interest and other income from Shrawan to Poush.
The NEA has stated that it has spent Rs 59.8 billion on electricity purchase, administrative and various projects. The NEA's gross profit (before tax) from Shrawan to Poush is projected to be Rs 11.36 billion.
The NEA, which had an annual loss of Rs 8.89 billion in the fiscal year 2072/73, has been in continuous profit in the following years. In the fiscal year 2080/81, the NEA earned a profit of Rs 14.46 billion. The NEA is investing in projects for expansion and strengthening of infrastructure for electricity generation, transmission and distribution and electrification from the earned profit.
The NEA has collected Rs 53.18 billion from electricity sales in the first six months of the current fiscal year. During the same period, a total of 6.31 billion units of electricity have been purchased, including Rs 1.15 billion from the NEA's subsidiaries and affiliates and Rs 5.16 billion from other private generating companies.
An amount of Rs 34.84 billion has been paid for the purchased electricity. Rs 1.65 billion has been paid for importing 242 million units of electricity from India. The Authority has exported 1.77 billion 1.8 million units of electricity to India from Shrawan to Poush, earning an income of Rs 13.09 billion.
The Authority has spent Rs 13.35 billion on various projects and electrification under the development budget received from the government and foreign aid. The Authority has stated that Rs 10.49 billion has been spent on direct payments of foreign aid.
