Belybridge is going to be built in the Simkhola under the dam of the Kulekhani hydropower project, which was damaged by the floods that occurred with the incessant rains of last October 11th and 12th.
Hetaunda, Directorate of Transport Infrastructure of Bagmati Province, has called for tenders for the construction of Beili Bridge on Monday. A tender of 1 crore 79 lakhs has been called for keeping the Beilibridge and constructing the access road.
"We will take out the belay bridge located in Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-6 in the Simkhola under the Kulekhani Dam", said the spokesman of Transport Infrastructure Directorate Hetaunda Chandradev Bhatt said.
To bring out the belay bridge of the Mandu River and install the bridge in the Simkhola He said that a tender has been issued for the construction of the pavement and the access road to be constructed. The Belybridge at that place is in a non-use condition as a concrete bridge has been constructed on the Mandu River and has been put into operation.
According to a technician of the infrastructure directorate, a 50-meter-long belay bridge is being built in Simkhola. Navin Singh, Head of Transport Infrastructure Directorate, Hetaunda, said, "We will complete the work of laying the bridge and constructing the access road before the onset of monsoon." If the bridge is not constructed and the access road is not built in Simkhola before the rainy season, all the short alternative routes from Hetaunda to Kathmandu will be blocked.
After the Kulekhani was filled with heavy rain, when the gate was opened to stop the 'over flow', the road along with the Simkhola bridge in the lower part of the Kulekhani Dam located in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2 was damaged. Now the traffic has been diverted from the river. .
In order to use the Fakhel and Sisneri roads, which are a short way to enter Kathmandu from Hetaunda, one has to travel through this bridge. More than 3,000 people use this road on a daily basis with motorcycles and small vehicles.
Suman Shrestha, Ward President of Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2, said that even though the traffic has been eased in the area by installing a belay bridge for the time being, there is a need for a concrete bridge to solve the long-term problem. "Considering the possible damage caused by the Kulekhani dam, a concrete bridge should be constructed now," he said.
