Due to lack of budget and delays in work, the multi-year contract process of more than 4 billion has started to pave 50 km of road under Khulalu-Hilsa road of the famous Karnali Corridor. has been

The Karnali Corridor Khulalu-Sallisalla Road Plan, Kalikot, called for a multi-year contract worth 4.23 billion on February 2 to black-pave the Khulalu-Sallisalla section along with upgrading it. The contract has been opened in two sections for 50 km from Laifu in Bajura to Humla border. It is 347 km from Khulalu to Hilsa in Kalikot. But the distance from Jamunah to Hilsa in China is 508 km.

Karnali Corridor, a tri-national road from India's Jamunah to China's Hilsa, is a project of national pride. Head of Karnali Corridor Khulalu-Sallisalla Road Plan Tularam Sharma said that there is a multi-year contract to complete the black paper work with upgrading within three years.

Sharma told that the highest amount of contract has been received in the Karnali Corridor. Last year, a contract worth more than 1 billion was awarded to build concrete bridges on rivers and streams in the Karnali corridor. Locals believe that the quality of life in this area will improve after the upgrading of Karnali Corridor, which connects India and China with 13 local levels of Kalikot, Bajura, Mugu and Humla. Locals hope that if this road is improved, the number of Indian tourists will increase to Mansarovar.

The North-South Highway is the backbone of Karnali's development, said Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, former Chief Minister of Karnali Province and leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party. Chief Minister of Karnali, Yamlal Kandel, who has been complaining that the central government has not given power to the states according to the federal structure, says that it is also an achievement that the government has started giving budget to projects of national pride. The Union Government has also shown a positive attitude towards giving powers to the provinces. We should not fail to utilize the available resources to the maximum," he said.

Work is being done to construct a concrete bridge by displacing all the belay bridges under the Karnali Corridor. Concrete bridges are being constructed at Khulalu, Sannigad, Phugad, Juddi, Kuwadi Khola, Gulfagad, Sallisalla and other places in Kalikot. According to the project, the work has already started in some places and will start in some places within this year. From Khulalu in Kalikot to Piluchaur in Bajura, bridge work is being done with road upgrading through a contract since last year, and a contract of 4.5 billion has been awarded for an additional 50 km.

Last year, six contracts worth 600 million have been awarded for road improvement, maintenance in some places, gabion wall, gravel, etc. for 60 km from Khulalu to Bajura. Chief Sharma said that once the budget for black paper from Khulalu to Piluchur is secured, the contract will be awarded in the next financial year. He said that there is a discussion about the need to change the road line in the Kalikot section due to flooding due to Phukot hydropower.

A budget of 1.12 billion 48 thousand has been allocated for the current financial year for the upgrading of Sallisalla road section from Piluchur in Bajura to Kuwadi river in Humla. This contract work is planned to be completed within 3 years. Even though the contract is worth 4.23 billion, the road department official says that after deducting the consignee and VAT, the work will be only 3.8 billion.

Karnali Corridor from Salisalla to Hilsa 146 km road maintenance is also being done with a contract worth 34 crores. Due to 7 land disputes, 700 meters of road has yet to be built near Humla headquarters to connect Hilsa to Simkot, the headquarters of Humla. Hilsa-Simkot road is connected through the winding road, Bel Bahadur Nepali, head of the Hilsa-Simkot project in Humla said, "700 meters of the road has yet to be dug due to a dispute between the locals." In the rainy season, the vehicle cannot go directly to Surkhet without crossing the Chuva River at Kharpunath in Humla. At that place, the Nepali Army is currently constructing a Beilibridge.

The road connecting Humla headquarters to Simkot from Khulalu was completed a year ago and vehicles are plying locally. Govinda Bahadur Shahi, the leader of civil society Humla, said that although it is called a project of national pride due to hard rock, lack of budget and delay in exit, it took a decade and a half to open the track. Navaraj Rokaya of Humla Sarkegad complains that due to the bad condition of the road in the Karnali corridor, the car fare is also very expensive. The car has arrived, the rent is fast. You have to pay 4,000 to reach Surkhet from Sarkegad,' he said, 'If the road is upgraded, it is hoped that the car fare will also decrease.'

2071 Chait 5th Cabinet meeting, the construction of the Khulalu-Simkot road was assigned to the Nepali Army due to special circumstances, and the work gained some momentum. The 196.3 km Karnali Corridor from Khulalu in Kalikot to Simkot, the headquarters of Humla, was completed within 5 years by the Nepali Army, which took 7 years to complete. The army extended the deadline citing lack of budget and covid.

Army is carrying out blasting of 11 km road from Ghatpari Chaur to Bhukkakhola in Kalikot which is a rocky part. By the end of the previous fiscal year, 3.5 km track of Ghatpari Chaur Bhukka Khola section was opened, and in this fiscal year, the target is to open 2.5 km road track from the 100 crores given to the army by the government.
