Nepal Airlines Corporation's narrow body aircraft has been grounded at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia since Saturday.
The nose landing gear on the front wheel of the plane returning to Kathmandu with 125 passengers was damaged. The plane was scheduled to return to Kathmandu on Sunday morning. But all the passengers have been kept in the hotel as they could not be repaired.
After the plane stopped there, the pilots said that the flights scheduled by the corporation for Sunday night to Malaysia, Dubai and Japan will be affected.
Preparations are being made to bring the passengers who have to return to Nepal from Saudi Arabia by other flights from Dammam to Kathmandu. Others have been kept in hotels at the corporation's expense, said an officer of the corporation's marketing department.
This narrow body named Lumbini was stranded in Malaysia after it broke down on Thursday. After the repairs, it landed at Tribhuvan International Airport only on Saturday evening. After reaching Dammam with 109 passengers on Saturday night, the plane again had problems.
"The narrowbody that flew to Malaysia on Thursday evening was repaired and brought to Kathmandu only on Saturday," said a technician of the corporation, "It reached Dammam in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night." The ring on the front wheel breaks when turning . According to another official of the
corporation, the maintenance agent company in Saudi Arabia has been told to repair the aircraft. But since the spare parts are not available, the technicians of Saudi Airlines have not been able to repair it and submit it to the corporation's office in Dammam till Sunday evening.
corporation spokesperson Ramesh Paudel said that preparations are being made to bring it to Nepal after repairing it quickly. Aircraft maintenance is carried out according to the standards set by shipbuilding companies and regulatory bodies. "Despite this, sometimes emergency problems occur," said spokesperson Paudel, "During the check-up before the flight to Dammam, a technical problem was found in the nose landing gear, so we are cooperating with the repair agent company."
Another aircraft stopped in China
Another narrow body of the corporation, which was delivered to Hebei, China on January 20 for detailed maintenance and inspection (C-check), has been stopped there due to problems with the payment of Everest. The pilot of the corporation reached China on Wednesday to take this plane.
The plane will be brought to Kathmandu only on Tuesday, according to corporation sources.
"The bills of the MRO company are being checked," said a technician involved in the maintenance of this plane, "After the bill checking is done, the payment process will be started and the plane will be brought to Nepal." One of these will fly to Narita, Japan on Sunday night. The other will fly to either Dubai or Malaysia. By evening, the corporation has informed that the passengers of all the three destinations will have flights. But since there are only two planes, the passengers of one destination have to be kept in the hotel.
