Highway hotels that never improved

Charging high prices by hotel-restaurant businessmen on the highway is not a new issue. During festivals such as Dasain-Tihar, more than one lakh passengers leave the valley every day. Passengers are in a hurry. They don't complain. Businessmen charge high prices for that opportunity. They also sell expired goods. Businessmen and business should improve after the festival. But government monitoring shows that the condition of highway hotels and restaurants is always the same. Monitoring has found that expired goods and selling at prices higher than MRP.

Food Technology and Quality Control Department, Commercial Supply and Consumer Protection Department, and a team including local police were found during monitoring in Dhading and Chitwan area from January 30 to February 3.

The joint monitoring team monitored 30 hotels, 5 sweets shops and 5 grocery shops on the highway. Such a condition was observed during the monitoring. During monitoring on the highway from the mobile food lab van, it was also found that oil that has been used once has been used again and again.

While inspecting the food industry, hotels, restaurants and food markets in Dhading and Chitwan, the problem was seen more in hotels on the highway. There is also a problem in the big hotels that are well-known along with the small ones. Expired goods were also found to be sold in expensive hotels," said Rajan Paudel, director general of the Commercial Supply and Consumer Protection Department. "We have fined the hotels that were found to have too much quality according to the Consumer Protection Act.

During monitoring, the Food Department operated a mobile food lab van. Ishwar Subedi, Senior Food Research Officer of the Food Department, said that while monitoring the van on the highway, it was found that oil that had been used once was used repeatedly.

It was observed that the oil that was used once was used again and again during monitoring using a mobile lab van. The polarity value of the oil was found to be 27 when it should be up to 24," Subedi said. "Apart from this, no attention was paid to sanitation along with expired goods and unlabeled goods on the highway. Subedi said that 10 of those who were monitored for other offenses were fined by commerce according to the Consumer Protection Act.

A monitoring team found vinegar, artificial colors and expired bread at City Stores in Dhading. 50,000 was fined under the Consumer Protection Act. The Hill Top restaurant was also found to have expired spices. Hill Top has also been fined 50,000. Ghee, bread and other items without labels were also found on the Trishuli river side. Trishuli River Side has also been fined Rs 50,000 by Commerce. Dasdhunga-based Ashoka Resort Pvt Ltd has been fined 1 lakh. It is said that he was also found in possession of expired maramsala, sprite. Expired milk was also found in Manakamana Darshan Pvt.

A bottle of water with an MRP of Rs 30 was sold at Rs 75. He was fined for failing to show the registration certificate of the hotel.  "According to the Consumer Protection Act, a fine of Rs 2,10,000 has been imposed," said Subedi, "A fine of Rs 50,000 has been imposed after an expired fanta was found at Ashoka Hotel." They say that due to the monitoring of the highways only during Dasain, there is an increase in the tendency of the businessmen to cheat. Not once or twice a year to bring reform. Should be monitored. Even if it is not a daily possibility, at least once a month, the highway businessmen are afraid, fear of being monitored, they improve, said Madhav Timilsina, President of Consumer Rights Research Forum.

The food technology and quality control department should check the quality of food sold by hotels. The issue of sale and distribution of goods that have expired and expired should be dealt with by the Department of Commercial Supply and Consumer Protection. Along with the federal structure, local bodies are also empowered. But there is no monitoring by the local authorities, so the market has not improved.  Paudel, Director General of the Department of Commerce, said that only following the highway will not improve the

. He says that standards are necessary for highway hotels. Common people who travel in public transportation must eat it. The businessman gives commission to the driver. Taking advantage of that, they have charged more," he said. "The standard of the hotel is needed to improve. It should be operated in a limited area. We will soon discuss the standards with the businessmen.'
