The Ministry of Finance has given resource consent for the construction of road infrastructure damaged by the floods and landslides that occurred last October. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has decided to grant resource consent on Tuesday.

The road department had requested resource consent from the Ministry of Finance with an estimate of 18 billion 882 million rupees for the reconstruction. With the decision of Artha, the way has been opened for the permanent construction of roads and bridges, the road department said. Ramhari Pokharel, director general of the department, said that it was decided to disburse 1 billion 88 million for the current financial year.

"Resources are multi-year rather than consensus," he said. Currently, the biggest problem is on the BP highway, which has been temporarily diverted for vehicles. As the monsoon approaches, permanent construction has not yet started. Director General Pokharel says that temporary repairs have been started.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure requested funds for the permanent construction and maintenance of 10 highways, 13 bridges and 3 roads. 15.83 billion rupees were demanded for highways, 1.9 billion rupees for bridges and 1.15 billion rupees for alternative roads. "Now there is a good coordination from Artha," said Pokharel, "Accordingly, we have also requested the Cabinet to make a decision to shorten the contract process and start work." Funds were requested through Road Division Bhaktapur and Khurkot for the permanent construction and maintenance of the highway. According to which, 7.5 billion rupees have been demanded for Bhaktapur section and 1 billion rupees for Khurkot section.

Kavre Bhanjang-Nepalthok section 12 km road has been damaged by landslides. Its 8.7 km road section is washed away by Roshi river. There is a problem on the road from Chowki Danda to Mulkot in Kavre. There is more problem in the road from Chowki Danda to Nepal wholesale section. The flood caused less damage in the Sindhuli section and more damage in the Kavre section.

A budget has been requested for the permanent construction of Arnico highway, Mechi highway, Biblate-Maipokhari-Sandakpur road, Kanti highway, Charikot-Singti road, Siddharth highway, Khurkot-Milti and Tamakoshi-Milti road. According to the department, the decision to give the budget has been made. Alternative roads include Bhakundebesi-Timal-Sinduretar in Karve, Kirnetar-Jaffe and Thankot-Chitlang in Dolakha. 1 billion 15 million has been demanded for this road.

"With the funds coming from the fund, all the broken bridges and roads will be built, the temporary repair work of the BP highway has been started," said Pokharel, "If the contract could have been done through a faster process, the work could have started before the monsoon." Its study is over. The department says that there will be no problem in proceeding with the contract process.

Arjun Prasad Aryal, Deputy Director General and Spokesperson of the Roads Department, said that the obstruction of the budget for the permanent construction of the roads damaged by floods has been removed. "Now the reconstruction of the damaged road will be started," he said. Director General Pokharel said that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also wants to help in the construction, so one section can be provided. "There has been no decision on this yet from JICA," he said.
