Bait industry is flourishing in Rajapur Municipality of Bardia. After starting to get good income, the businessmen started to expand its market.

The fishing nets in Rajapur's Karnali river coastal area and community forest used to be wasted till a few years ago. But now furniture has been started from rattan. Industrialists have made chairs, tables, hangers and other materials from rattan.

As the demand for rattan furniture has increased, the commercial production has also increased . Mohan Bahadur KC of Rajapur-4 says that he has good income from the sale of rattan furniture. The demand has started to come in a lot. But we are not able to manage the content accordingly,' he says .

After the increase in demand, the businessmen have also started to increase investment . Businessmen have become excited for investment as they will get good income with little investment.

The materials that were meant to be wasted in the forest have now become the materials that enhance the beauty of everyone's home. Kedar Thapa, President of Bardia Industry and Commerce Association, Rajapur, said that after the demand for materials made of rattan has increased, the community forest has started the process of auctioning rattan.

The rattan furniture produced here reaches Surkhet, Dang, Butwal, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. Businessperson Arun Rastogi said that the auction process from the community forest is not able to purchase large quantities of cane.

Vijay Raj Subedi, Head of Division Forest Office, Bardia, said that about 200 quintals of cane were produced from community forests in the district last year. He says that due to the increase in usage, we should start increasing the production. Rattan goods produced here have started to be exported to India as well.
