Nepal India PEC meeting: Agreement on import-export of electricity on 8.1 units

The 16th meeting of the Nepal-India Power Exchange Committee (PEC) has fixed the rate of 8.1 bharu (12 rupees 96 paisa) per unit of electricity to be imported and exported. The PEC meeting held on Wednesday in New Delhi, the capital of India, decided the rate per unit of electricity to be imported-exported according to the structure of the transmission line.

The meeting was held under the co-chairmanship of Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghising and Ashok Kumar Rajput, Member of Power System of Central Electricity Authority of India. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the price of electricity exchange through 132 kV transmission line in 2025 has been set at 8.1 bharu (12 rupees 96 paisa) per unit. The price of electricity exchange through 132 kV transmission line in 2024 was 7.98 bharu (12 rupees 77 paisa) per unit.

The meeting has also fixed the price of electricity exchange through 33 KV transmission line at 8.78 bharu (14 rupees 04 paisa) per unit. In 2024, the price of electricity exchange through 33 kV transmission line was 8.65 bharu (13 rupees 84 paisa) per unit. Nepal has 

9.41 Bharu (Rs 15.05) per unit rate of electricity imported and exported through 11 KV transmission line has been set . Chandan Kumar Ghosh, spokesperson of the authority, said that the new rate has been set so that Nepal can take electricity whenever it wants and it will be applicable even when it is exported to India.

 

 'We will purchase electricity through this structure only when we need it, we have kept the way open rather than expensive and cheap,' he said, 'We will bring it from 132 KV . Only 33 and 11 KV transmission lines will buy electricity when it is necessary. This price will be applicable till next December. For the year 2026, the PEC meeting will have to set the per unit rate of electricity again.
