Meeting of Agriculture Minister Officer with Prime Minister Oli: Chemical fertilizer shortage should not be allowed

Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari informed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli about the progress and problems of various works being carried out by the ministry.

In the meeting held today at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the ministerial officer  He briefed the Prime Minister on the balance of chemical fertilizers, Agricultural Investment Dasak (2081-2091), National Agricultural Policy and Agriculture Bill, Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project, Restructuring of Nepal Agricultural Research Council, Buffalo Pada breeding program for meat export, Sugarcane farmers' subsidy and subsidized agricultural loans. 

 At the meeting  Prime Minister Oli directed the farmers to end the problem by making the supply and distribution of chemical fertilizers fast and transparent.  Prime Minister Oli asked to bring a policy that would give priority to the preparation of fertilizer industry in the country and the use of organic fertilizers in order to please the Nepali people and not to any country. He also requested to bid for chemical fertilizers on time, distribute them within 10 days in the lowlands and 15 days in the mountains.

According to the ministry, an amount of 27 billion 95 million rupees has been allocated for 550 thousand metric tons of fertilizer annually. So far, 240,000 metric tons of fertilizer has been imported and 263,000 metric tons have been sold including last year's stock. 

Similarly, 30,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer is currently being imported. In the meeting, the Ministry informed the Prime Minister that due to the increase in the price of urea fertilizer in the international market, there will be a problem in the supply of fertilizer that has already been agreed with the importer, and the legal provision of up to 45 days for the 'global tender' will be a problem. Prime Minister Oli asked to modernize agriculture and formulate an agricultural policy to increase productivity and increase the utility of resources by adding structures that are currently unnecessary.

In the same meeting, it was discussed to make grand preparations for the Bay of Bengal Initiative (BIMSTEC) agriculture ministerial meeting for multi-sectoral technical and economic cooperation to be held in Kathmandu on 26th and 27th of Chait 2081. Prime Minister Oli instructed to make participation in such forums effective and objective and to present themselves in such a way as to help in fulfilling the expectations of Nepal's prosperity.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Dr. Govind Sharma and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture also participated in the meeting. Prime Minister Oli also reminded the meeting to remove the Prime Minister's name from the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project.
