Eight years after the construction of the 900 megawatt Arun 3rd hydropower project started, the distribution of discount compensation to 400 families has started. The district administration office has started distributing discount compensation from Tuesday. They had been protesting for five years saying that the project dug 30 meters of road and got compensation for only 15 meters.
The administration had set up a desk and collected the names of the beneficiaries for a week. Vinod Kumar Khadka, Chief District Officer of Sankhuwasabha, said that 46.8 million was distributed as compensation on the same day. He said that 53 crores will be distributed as compensation for discount. "Within two weeks, we will send the money to the accounts of all the beneficiaries," he said.
On December 11, the Supreme Court issued a mandate that the District Administration Sankhuwasabha should pay within one month according to the notification published on Chait 23, 2079. They got compensation. "Even though the project was about to be completed, we got compensation," said Janikumar Rai, Chairman of the Struggle Committee.
The administration had set a rate of 11 lakh 75 thousand for the compensation of 524 ropani land of the 24 km access road from Chyangkuti to the power house. After that, Arun 3 Power Development Company Limited, the promoter of the project, deposited 530 million in the administration's bond account for the victims. So far, about 80 percent of the project has been completed.
