Corporation's Amlekhganj depot started distributing petrol from the pipeline

After the successful testing of petrol and kerosene, petrol distribution has been formally started from Raxaul-Amlekhganj petroleum pipeline. After importing 15,000 kiloliters of petrol twice and testing 1,000 kiloliters of kerosene twice, the Oil Corporation has started the formal sale and distribution from Sombar.

Pralayankar Acharya, head of the regional office of Amlekhganj, said that the petrol imported through the pipeline was sent to Pokhara and Biratnagar. On Monday, we officially sent 7 tankers to Pokhara and 10 tankers of petrol to Biratnagar. Now the daily distribution has started,” Acharya said. A tanker can hold 20,000 kiloliters of petrol. He said that around 340,000 liters of petrol were distributed from 17 tankers.

Earlier on October 17, 5,500 kiloliters of petrol was brought and tested from the pipeline where only diesel was imported. Then 1000 kiloliters of kerosene was also brought. Then again 10,000 kiloliters of petrol was brought and tested. Acharya said that after the completion of construction works including depot construction, loading bay, laboratory under the second phase, the formal distribution started from Monday. But daily petrol will not come from the pipeline. 300 kiloliters of petrol can be imported through the pipeline in an hour. But Amlekhganj has a petrol tank with a capacity of 17,490 kiloliters. There is a problem in making balance when importing daily. Therefore, when 3/4 thousand kiloliters are less in the tank, we import and stock up, distribution is done daily,' said Acharya.

The much awaited Nepal-India international petroleum pipeline project was officially inaugurated on August 24, 2076. The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the Amlekhganj-Motihari Petroleum Pipeline by pressing the switch. Diesel is being imported under the first phase. The corporation claims that the pipeline has ended technical losses in transportation. Under the second phase, the corporation aimed to import petrol and kerosene through the pipeline. For that, an agreement was reached that Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the corporation will make a joint investment.  It is said that

corporation will invest 1 billion 54 crore and IOC will invest 75 crore. In this budget, there is an agreement for the construction of infrastructure including two petrol tanks, 24 refillers, laboratories, firefighting systems, two transmix tanks for storing mixed fuel, and 'firewater' tanks for security inside the depot.

Tanks, refillers, state-of-the-art laboratories, firefighting systems, etc. were taken over by IOC. The IOC awarded the Indian company Likhita International to build the infrastructure. The contract for the construction of the project was to be completed by March 2024.

After many times of guidance and direction, the construction was finally completed. Accordingly, the test was successful. But the operation was delayed again,' says the corporation source, 'The corporation had prepared to import petrol and kerosene through the pipeline from Pus, but it was not successful.' Even though the corporation requested time from India several times for the inauguration, the source says that there was a delay in setting the date.

The Amlekhganj fuel depot has been operating manually for three and a half decades. As petrol comes from the pipeline, it is 'received' from the pipeline and sent to other offices through digital (automation). At the local level, it has been distributed using the old technology. But after receiving from the pipe line, it has been loaded through a digital process," Acharya said, "Now we will go to full automation in one to two months." 24 "loading ways" have been constructed for full automation in

loading. There are 36 filling points in 24 'loading ways'. Out of this, 7 bottom loading and 8 tom loading of petrol can be done. 4 bottom and 14 top loading of diesel can be done. According to the corporation, there is a bottom loading of kerosene.
