After 3 months, Leaping Bely Bridge was built

The Bely Bridge connecting Liping Bazar of Tatopani Canal, which was washed away by floods last October, has been put into operation from Monday. The 45.72 meter long Lipingkhola Beli Bridge was prepared on Sunday evening with the technical support of the Nepali Army. Army's No. 26 Bahinipati Assistant Rathi Ashok Gurung inaugurated the 28-tonne load-carrying belay bridge on Monday.

With the handing over of Belibridge to the Road Division Office by the Army, traffic has been operating from the border market. Last October, the floods in Lipingkhola and Bhotekoshi washed away the bridge here. Shortly after the flood, Larcharma Humepipe was placed and traffic was brought into operation. Border residents and businessmen are excited after Beilibridge is connected to Liping.

"Earlier, even though the unpaved road was connected from the corner of Leaping Bridge, it was a risky journey. With the addition of the Bely Bridge, the checkpoint has also come into operation," said Kumar Shrestha, Ward President of Bhotekoshi-2. Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa said that according to the informal discussion between the officials of Nepal and China earlier, the border crossing will be closed from January 6 to Sunday. After the completion of the construction of the Bely Bridge, the border has been operating as before.

In border area Tatopani, there is only a small building of small customs office built in Miteri bridge beside Beilibridge, Humepipe in Tatopani area. Moreover, there is a complaint that there is no work for the physical infrastructure of the border area from the government and other parties.

The Kodari Highway (26 km) connecting Tatopani Pass has become dangerous due to landslides and potholes in dozens of places. "The government does not seem to be doing anything at the Tatopani crossing, the market here is in ruins, the Kodari highway that connects the international crossing is in a bad condition," complained Sangbo Sherpa, a resident of Bhotekoshi-2.

After the earthquake, aftershock and Bhotekoshi flood in 2072, when efforts were being made to open the border, on June 21, 2073, the Kodari highway became a disaster by sweeping away 80 houses along the road and border. In 2074, the motorable bridge at Larcha built by a Chinese contractor was blocked by an upper dry landslide and flowed into the Bhotekoshi river.

Shortly thereafter, Belybridge was installed. Last October, the Liping bridge connecting Liping Bazar, which was only damaged in the previous monsoons, was completely washed away by the Liping River flood.
