The general secretary of the association Hiramani Sharma said that 75 percent of the demand for roses on this year's Valentine's Day will be met by imported and 25 percent domestic production. "It is estimated that 3 lakh 18 thousand 750 sticks of flowers will be imported from India, while 1 lakh 6 thousand 250 sticks of indigenous roses will be consumed," he said. According to Sharma, only 10 percent of domestic roses were used on Valentine's Day.

Every year, the demand for roses is expected to increase by 15 to 20 percent, the association said. The association has said that there is a demand for 10,000 stick rose flowers per day in Nepal except for festivals. Commercial rose flower cultivation is done in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchok and Rupandehi. The commercial cultivation of rose flowers is also expanding in other districts.
