Ippan meets major party whips to press for review of Supreme Court verdict

The Association of Independent Energy Producers of Nepal (IPPAN) has met the chief whip of the ruling party CPN-UML and the chief whip of the opposition party Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA) and has drawn attention to reconsider the decision of the Supreme Court.

The team including IPPAN President Ganesh Karki requested the chief party's whip to review the court's decision to create an environment for developing hydropower projects even within national parks and various protected areas.

Ippan claims that hydropower projects worth 20,000 megawatts are directly affected by a decision of the Supreme Court. If the decision is not reviewed, not only hydropower projects but any kind of development will be stopped in Nepal. Ippan is also meeting the chief whips of Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Center, RPP and United Socialist Party on this matter.

Due to the decision made by the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, the government is also criticizing the decision as it has created a situation where no physical structure can be built in the forest area under the name of various conservation areas. "Due to the decision of the court, it is not possible to build a new project, the electricity of the existing project will be wasted without building a transmission line, so the risk of investment in the project under construction is unsafe," said Karki, president of IPPAN.

If the court's decision is not reconsidered, there will be a situation where not one more hydropower project will be built in Nepal, said Mohan Kumar Dangi, senior vice president of IPPA . He said that even if all the projects are not in the conservation area, the transmission lines will fall in some conservation area and if the transmission lines are not built, the electricity of the projects that are being built now will not flow, so there is no place to build more projects . In the

meeting, Mahesh Bertaula, the chief whip of CPN-UML, said that the structures named after various protected areas have a great impact on development, and he said that he has started a discussion on how it cannot be amended. "You can't hold the country hostage by showing it to the court." According to the current decision, not even a faucet can be buried in the conservation area,' said Bertaula, 'The first option to solve this problem is that the government publishes a notice in the gazette and changes the border  And the second option is to rephrase it .'

Santosh Pariyar, chief whip of Rashtriya Swatantra Party, said that such laws should be amended to allow smugglers to sell wood but people cannot cut fallen trees. He said that he will raise his voice to end the situation of having to bring wood from Malaysia in Nepal, which is about to reach 50 percent forest area.

IPPA Deputy Secretary General Prakash Dulal said that if the US withdraws from the agreement with the world, Nepal should also withdraw from the anti-development agreement. He said that this type of decision made in the name of environmental protection will stop not only the construction of hydropower projects but also the digging of wells, thus the entire development construction will be stopped .

Bharat Parajuli, a member of the working committee of IPPA, said that 23 percent of Nepal's total land area is in the name of protected areas with different names. What kind of country are you trying to make by stopping all development and construction? He also asked that .
