In the Rigdi River located in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality-1, fish have stopped being seen lately. At one time, the locals living around the river used to earn their living by fishing. But since the last few years, after the increase in fishing using poison and current in the river, the fish here are dying.

After the process of putting pesticides and applying electricity did not stop, they started to protect aquatic animals including local fish. Locals of Ichchakamana-2 formed a fish protection committee on Saturday. Sher Bahadur Praja, chairman of the fish protection committee, said that the conservation committee informs the locals living around the river about the effects of using pesticides and electricity, organizes public awareness programs including legal action against the use of pesticides and electricity in coordination with the rural municipality and ward offices, and puts up information boards. He said that if they fail to remind, the committee will inform the local administration for legal action.

The rural municipality has been repeatedly issuing notices not to put pesticides in the river and not to connect electricity for the last few years, said Dan Bahadur Gurung, chairman of the rural municipality. He said that they have requested to inform the ward office, rural municipality office and local administration if pesticides are applied and electricity is applied. Applying pesticides and electrocution  It is mentioned in the notice issued by the village council that legal action will be taken.

Another local Tika Bahadur Gurung said that the local government can protect Rigdi's Asla fish and make it a 'brand'. He said that the local government should completely stop those who use pesticides to protect the fish.

He said, "The people who use pesticides and electricity should be completely stopped by letting them kill fish traditionally, the fish here can be made into a brand, it will become a source of income for the locals."
