A massive fire broke out at the Manchal Cultural Festival site in Salyan from January 18th. A fire broke out at the festival venue organized by National Folk and Dohori Geet Pratishthan Salyan in Town Planning of Sharda Municipality-1, Srinagar at around 11 pm on Saturday.

Stalls kept for sale at the festival and all the contents were destroyed by the fire. Traders have said that material worth lakhs kept in the stall was destroyed by fire. 

The festival has also been completely affected due to the fire. Police Inspector Baburam Basnet, Information Officer of District Police Office Salyan, said that the fire which broke out around 11:00 pm was brought under control by a team of locals, businessmen, festival organizers and security personnel. 

He said that an investigation is being conducted on how the fire happened. According to him, 160 stalls were placed inside the festival site. The materials kept in 30 stalls were burnt and destroyed. The rest are also in a state of non-use. 

The tin plates kept for wire fence have also been burnt and destroyed. Details of the damage caused by the fire are being collected. It is estimated that more than 30 million worth of materials have been burnt and destroyed so far. After the contents of the stall were destroyed by fire, the traders have demanded compensation from the organizers.
