Janata Awas Program: Two thousand houses built in Makwanpur and Chitwan

Under the Janata Awas program, 2,077 houses have been constructed in Makwanpur and Chitwan in a period of 14 years.

In order to provide private houses to the economically poor, endangered and marginalized communities, the federal government had conducted the Janata Economic Rains program in Makwanpur from the fiscal year 2067/068.

From the financial year 2075/076, the federal government handed over the Janata Economic Rain Program to the state government. After the federal government handed over the program to the provincial government, Janata Economic Rain Program was also conducted in Chitwan from the fiscal year 2075/076.

Under the Janata Economic Rains program, the government has been building and handing over buildings to Chepang, Vanakaria, Wote, Pahari, Majhi and Dalit communities who are extremely poor and endangered and marginalized communities according to the procedure.

The Urban Development and Building Office under the provincial government has been doing building construction works in addition to selecting the beneficiaries. Suwodh Adhikari, Head of Urban Development and Building Office, Hetaunda, said that the federal government has made houses and handed over 7100 Chepangs to the very poor of the Chepang community from the financial year 067/068 to the financial year 074/075 in Makwanpur.

Since the financial year 075/076, the state government has conducted Janata Economic Rain Program in Chitwan and Makwanpur. "During this period, we have built and handed over 1,306 houses in these two districts," he said. Urban Development and Building Office Hetaunda has been conducting Janata Economic Rain Program in Chitwan and Makwanpur.

Most of the beneficiaries of Chepang community have been built and handed over. The state government has allocated 140 million rupees for the Janata Economic Rain Program for the current financial year. With that amount, the Urban Development and Building Office has started construction of buildings according to the concept of integrated settlements.  According to the

procedure, the buildings of the selected beneficiaries were planned to be constructed in one place as much as possible. According to the plan, it was aimed to build at least 10 buildings at the same place . The concept of Integrated Settlement Economic Irrigation Program has been introduced because it is easier to deliver water, electricity and roads to integrated settlements, said the chief officer of the Urban Development and Building Office, "It is also easier to work when there are integrated settlements." 127 buildings have been constructed in Chitwan, while 116 buildings have been constructed in Makwanpur, said the head of the office.

"We are handing over the buildings of the integrated settlement built in Makwanpur's Raksirang rural municipality-4 soon," he said. 3 lakh 84 thousand rupees will be provided in four installments for the construction of the building under the economic rain program.

For the past 14 years, the Janata Economic Rain Program has been running in Makwanpur to provide private houses to the very poor and the endangered and marginalized communities. In Chitwan, the program has been running for 6 years.
