The work of Gwarko overpass has resumed after a month. After the company that took the contract failed to do the work despite extending the deadline time and time again, the work was carried out with a fine from last December 10. The construction business stopped the work from December 18 saying that there was no working environment from the contracting agency.

As a result, the construction work was stopped for months. Deep Barahi, director of the quality, research and development center under the road department, said that construction workers have started work from Wednesday.

"The stopped work has started," Barahi said, "The work has been done with fines, some errors have been noticed during the construction towards Satdobato,   the builders are ready to work by improving them." He told the builders to finish the work by March. "There will be something below at that time," he said, "There won't be too much delay in the construction." According to the center, there was a problem with the MSE wall towards Satdobato. Barahi says that the work should be carried out by making that improvement.

The construction of the overpass has been started from February 2078 to be completed within two years, but it has not been completed yet. Earlier too, the work was stopped for four months due to rain. The Center, the contracting authority, sent a 'notice to correct' twice saying that the businessman had left the job without giving any information. Arjun Prasad Aryal, Deputy Director General and Spokesperson of the Road Department said that there is no problem now and the work has already started.

'The work was stopped for some time,' he said, 'the work was done with a fine, so the faster the builders work, the less the fine will be.' "If there is any problem in the work to be done by the government agency, we have asked the center and the department to tell it," he said, "Now we can't delay the work by making excuses for this and that." Although it is a joint contract, the work is being done by Railiger Construction. According to the initial agreement, the construction of the overpass should be completed by February 12, 2080. But after the work was not completed within that time, the deadline was extended for the second time until June 2081. As the work could not be completed within that time, the deadline was last December 9. If it was not completed within that time, the work was carried out with a fine from December 10. A 540 meter long overpass will be built with a

traffic structure. Even though the work of making the ramp has been started by placing concrete panels and special 'polymer reinforcement' at the sides, it has not been completed. The ramp will be up to 10.2 meters high. The 40-meter ramp built towards Satdobato said

will have to be removed and put back. This is one of the mistakes that builders must correct. Where there is a gap in the placed ramp. 44 crores have been spent on the overpass so far and construction professionals have estimated that another 15 crores will be required.

The construction progress of the overpass is 82 percent so far. 13 months into the contract, work was halted due to design issues. It has been contracted under Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.

Therefore, the work from design to construction should be done by the contracting company. After technical problems were found during the construction process, the businessman stopped the main work and 'revised the design'. As the construction of the overpass is not completed on time, the people commuting through Koteshwar-Kalanki are forced to suffer daily traffic jams.

Koteshwar-Kalanki road was expanded to 8 lanes in 2075 with the grant of the Chinese government. Now, the problem of traffic jam has been added when the construction of an overpass on Gwarko road in this section has started.
