58 companies have expressed interest in importing wheat from India. Those companies have applied for import after the commercial supply and consumer protection department opened the application on January 14 for commercial purposes.
According to the quota received by the department, information was published for 90 thousand tons. Interested firms/companies should have applied to the department within 7 days. "We gave a week's time, during this period 58 companies showed interest," said Rajan Paudel, director general of the department, "after completing all the procedures, the import will start from the first week of February." In order to import in this way, the paid-up capital of the firm or company should be at least 1 crore rupees.
'Since the quota received by commerce is 90 thousand tons, all companies get at least 100 tons import permission. In the notification, it is also stated that a maximum of 10,000 tons, for that, we will give permission by looking at the capital of the industry, the revenue submitted to the government and the possibility of importing,' Director General Paudel said, 'It is an item banned by India, after the quota is decided by commerce, we will give permission after approval from the ministerial decision.' Imports should be completed within 3 months from the date of receipt of quota. India allowed Nepal to import 50,000 tons per year despite the ban on exports. Last year, 300,000 tonnes was demanded after the quantity was insufficient. India has allowed 200,000 tonnes out of 300,000.
Commerce will import 90 thousand tons out of 2 lakh tons. It is said that 100,000 tons will be imported by the Industries Department and 10,000 tons by Salt Trading. The Industries Department will import for industrial purposes and Salt for commercial purposes. The Industries Department has also published a notification on January 15 to import 1 lakh tonnes. He also asked to import through the Indian company National Cooperative Exports Limited.
'Wheat import had to be registered according to prevailing laws. The annual plan of the industry must mention the use of wheat as a raw material,'' the notification says, 'an industry must import at least 500 tons not exceeding 25 percent of its approved annual plan.' It is mentioned that wheat should be imported within 3 months after receiving the quota. India banned the export of wheat in 2079 Baisakh. According to the Indian media, buyers from all over the world are trying to buy wheat from India after the decrease in shipments from the "Black Sea" region due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. India has also banned exports keeping food security in mind.
India's ban has had an impact on market prices. According to the Retail Trade Association, the price of wheat in February 2078 was Rs 50 and that of cashew was Rs 55. In Chait 2078, the price of wheat increased to Rs 55 per kg and flour to Rs 60 per kg. By January 2081, the price of wheat has increased to Rs 75 and Rs 90. The government demanded wheat from India to control the market price. The Department of Commerce and Industry has opened applications to import wheat after India said it would give 200,000 tons.
