Cardamom production has increased in Baglung. Due to the expansion of the area, the farmers of Baglung managed to produce 48 metric tons of cardamom last year.

According to the statistics of Krishi Gyan Kendra, the farmers here have managed to earn six crores in one financial year from the sale of cardamom. Balibhadra Sapkota, a farmer of Jaimini Municipality Ward No. 2, who is expanding cardamom cultivation every year in the hope of getting a good price, said. According to him, compared to other districts, the farmers of Baglung have got less price of cardamom. Cardamom has been sold here at the rate of 1000 250 per kg. The attraction of farmers is increasing here every year because of good income from

production. The expansion of cardamom cultivation has confirmed this . Cardamom cultivation was done on 128 hectares of land in the financial year 078/79. In which 42 metric tons were produced . When selling at the rate of 950 per kg, the farmer had a turnover of 39.9 million.

In the financial year 079/80, cultivation expanded to 131 hectares of land, but the production decreased . 38 metric tons were produced that year . The farmer Sapkota told     

Even in the current financial year, the farmers have already sold cardamom in the month of November, the Krishi Gyan Kendra has said that the work of collecting data is underway to ascertain how much was traded.  Santosh Adhikari, Crop Protection Officer and Information Officer of the Knowledge Center, informed that cardamom farming has been expanded to 140 hectares of land in the district and cardamom planted in 96 hectares has started producing.

Out of 10 local levels of Baglung, 'Cardamom Zone' has been constructed by covering eight local levels. Narayan Paudel, senior agricultural officer on behalf of the project implementation unit Baglung, said that the program of zone establishment has been approved and the implementation has started in the current financial year.

Information Officer Paudel said that cardamom is being produced in various places of Tarakhola Kathekhola, Badigad Rural Municipality, Bareng and Nisikhola Rural Municipality and Baglung, Jaimini and Galkot Municipalities.

Cardamom can be managed well and produce for 10 years after planting. The quality of cardamom produced by farmers is divided and sold at different prices.
