The National Small Urban Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumers' Federation submitted a memorandum to Water Minister Pradeep Yadav and Ministry Secretary Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya on Tuesday and demanded that drinking water institutions should be exempted from tax.

The team led by the president of the federation, Khemraj Wali, met the minister and the secretary at Singh Darbar and asked them to make the slogan of the government's investment in people's water worthwhile.

Due to various reasons such as climate change, population growth, and urbanization, the water source is decreasing day by day, so the Federation has emphasized that alternative measures should be adopted soon to face future challenges.

Due to the enthusiastic participation shown by the local level, the water supply projects including small urban/urban/sahalgani have been certified as model water supply projects in South Asia, so the federation has drawn attention to protect these water supply projects.

Federation of Nepal demands to fully implement the right of every Nepali to have access to clean drinking water and sanitation in the Constitution of Nepal. It has been emphasized that the technical/financial aspects of the water supply project are the responsibility of the government and the management area of the community, i.e. consumer organizations, so that the water supply project should be constructed in such a way that the fundamental rights are guaranteed.

It has been requested to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to waive the debts of the consumer organizations burdened with debt due to the projects run by the investment partnership. It has been emphasized that the electricity consumed during the operation of the water supply system should be provided free of charge by the state and the concept of water supply insurance board should be introduced and the amount of the premium should be the responsibility of the state.
