Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka has requested donor agencies to invest in the hydropower sector. With the goal of producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity in Nepal by 2035, after the cabinet meeting approved the 'Energy Development Roadmap-2081', Energy Minister Khadka discussed with the heads and representatives of donor agencies on Tuesday to raise investment.
Minister Khadka thanked for the previous support from donor agencies for the development of Nepal's energy sector and asked them to continue it in the future. He said that the energy development roadmap will help to transform Nepal into a regional energy center, strengthen national and cross-border infrastructure, and promote economic prosperity.
Minister Khadka said that the roadmap is a 'roadmap' for energy security, sustainability and inclusive economic growth. He also stated that the roadmap has paid special attention to the development of international transmission lines along with production. Khadka said that Nepal, which has sufficient potential of water resources, will provide unparalleled opportunities for investment in the energy sector.
Minister Khadka expressed confidence that the Upper Arun Reservoir project to be built with the help of the World Bank, the Dudhkoshi Reservoir project to be built with the help of the Asian Development Bank will be built on time. Minister Khadka urged the development partners, international diplomatic missions, international organizations and the community to implement the roadmap created for the country's economic development.
Secretary of Water and Energy Commission Secretariat Madhu Prasad Vetuwal said that to fulfill the goals of the energy development roadmap set by the government, great support and assistance from donor agencies is necessary. Mentioning that there is a challenge in energy production, transmission and distribution, he said that everyone should work together to solve the challenge.
Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Ram Prasad Dhital said that the energy development roadmap is an important document in the development of Nepal's energy sector and mentioned that development partner organizations have an important role to implement it.
Senior energy expert Prabal Adhikari of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said that 46.5 billion US dollars will be needed to meet the goals set by the energy development roadmap. Currently, 11,161 megawatts of electricity purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed and 12,968 megawatts of electricity (PPA) are in the process of being completed, so there will be no problem in meeting the government's electricity production target.

Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, said that the authority has paid attention to the construction of reservoir projects to fulfill the goals set by the energy development roadmap.
Executive Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Center Navraj Dhakal said that the Center is going to advance its programs in the coming days by prioritizing the Energy Development Roadmap. Ganesh Karki, Chairman of the Independent Energy Producers Association (IPPAN), said that the Energy Development Roadmap is historic in the field of energy development in Nepal. He mentioned that there is full support from the private sector.
Asian Development Bank's Country Director Arnaud Kaichois pledged that the donor agency has been supporting the development of Nepal's energy sector for a long time and will continue to help in the future to meet the goals of the energy development roadmap set by the government. He said that such programs will help improve the economy of South Asian countries.
