It has been 7 years since the Nepali Army took over the construction management of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhesh Expressway (Fast Track). So far construction progress is 37.60 percent. Out of the total 70.977 km, only 64.477 km is being worked on. Contract management for 6.5 km of Lalitpur's Khokna section has not yet been completed.

While inspecting the expressway under construction, President Ramchandra Paudel also took information from the army about its progress and problems on Friday. On that occasion, President Paudel observed the Lendanda and Dhedre tunnels which were broken through in Ward No. 11 and 12 under Baaiya Rural Municipality of Makwanpur.

He also took a progress report on the construction status of the Mahadevtar tunnel, which is in the final preparations for 'break through'. "If the project is completed quickly, the daily life of the common people will be made easier," President Paudel said. During the inspection, he also instructed the army to work with high morale to complete the project within the stipulated time.

The initial cost estimate of the expressway was 1 trillion 11 billion rupees, later it was revised to 1 trillion 75 billion rupees. 2 trillion 11 billion 93 crore rupees have been revised again. But about 72 billion 41 crore rupees have been spent on construction so far. The army got the responsibility of its construction management in May 2074. According to the army, 10.613 km of tunnels and 12.88 km of bridges are among the total roads.

7 tunnels are being constructed on the expressway. Similarly, 89 bridges are under construction. Of these, 80 bridges are under construction and 5 have been completed. The construction of four more bridges has not started as they are in the Khokna section. As the 211 ropani land of Khokna-Bungmati section has not yet been acquired, the construction of the bridge has not picked up speed. According to the army, the construction of the 2250 meter Chandram Bhir tunnel has been started.

One kilometer long Devichaur and 390 meters long Sisautar tunnel are under design. According to the decision of the Council of Ministers held on November 25, 583 meters Mauribhir tunnel has been added. Its construction process has also been advanced. Construction of 5 bridges has been completed in Rajdamar area of Makwanpur. In other places, the foundation, sub structure and super structure of various bridges with a height of up to 81 meters are being worked on.

The army has informed that 36 thousand 179 trees of different species have been cut during the construction of the expressway. Army claims that 7 lakh 5 thousand 552 saplings have been planted so far in place of the cut trees. The construction of the expressway, which is a project of national pride, has been given time until March 2083 by the cabinet meeting on 5th April 2080.
