The physical progress of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhesh expressway project so far has been seen at 37 percent. According to the information provided by the Nepali Army, who was given responsibility for the construction during the inspection by President Ramchandra Paudel on Friday, the overall physical progress of the project is 37.60 percent and the financial progress is 39.56 percent, i.e. about 72.41 billion rupees have been spent.
President Paudel inspected Lendanda, Dhedre and Mahadeotar tunnels which have been completed in Ward No. 11 No. 12 under Bakaiya Rural Municipality of Makwanpur. While observing the expressway, the President has also given instructions to complete the work of the project quickly. "If this project is completed quickly, the daily life of the common people will be easier," said President Paudel.
According to the Nepali Army, seven tunnels will be built on the expressway. The total length of which will be 10.979 km. So far, the construction of 1612 meters long tunnel of Lendanda and 1728 meters long tunnel of Dhedre has been completed. More than 65 percent of the Mahadeotar tunnel has been completed. One kilometer long Devichaur tunnel, 390 meter long Sisautar tunnel and 2250 meter long Chandrabhir tunnel have been completed and the design is in progress. According to the decision of the Council of Ministers held on November 25, the 583-meter Maurivir tunnel has been approved for the purchase agreement, according to the army.
The Nepali Army has informed that skybridges will be constructed at 89 places of modern technology on the expressway. The purchase contract for the bridge to be built at 85 locations has been completed. It is reported that the construction of Akashe Bridge in Lendanda and Dhedre has reached its final stage. At present, the construction work of 5 state-of-the-art bridges has been completed in Rajdamar area of Makwanpur. In other places, it is said that the foundation, substructure and superstructure of bridges of various natures, which are up to 81 meters in height, are being worked on.
According to approval from the Government of Nepal, EIA and SEIA, out of the total acquisition of about 17,651 ropani of land required for the project, 5 thousand 487 ropani of personal land is. According to the army, out of which notices have been published for the acquisition of 5,004 ropanis of individual land, 4,818 ropanis of land have been acquired.
In the pending acquisition of 388 ropani land, the price of Khokna-Bungmati section of Lalitpur has been determined and compensation for 203 ropani land is yet to be distributed. Due to the dispute, the work in this area has not been able to move forward so far. The acquisition process of about 368 plantations including 165 plantations whose price is yet to be determined has not progressed. Out of which, 16 acres of land in Makwanpur district and 4 acres of land in Kathmandu district are yet to be acquired.
The army has cut down 36 thousand 179 different species of trees so far during the construction of the expressway. According to the Army, 7 lakh 5 thousand 552 saplings have been planted in Jammu so far in place of the cut down trees.
The 70 km 977 meter long expressway from Nijgarh to Lalitpur's Khokna has 10.39 km of tunnels at 6 places. The meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 5, 2080 had extended the deadline to complete this project of national pride by March 2083. If the work proceeds at the current pace, it is widely believed that the project will be completed within the specified time frame. The construction work of this project started on 2nd of June 2078 after the contract was signed.
