Tiktok is preparing to close its operations in the US. After the deadline of January 19, Tiktok is going to make Tiktok unavailable in the US from this Sunday, according to Reuters. Along with this, 170 million TikTok users in America will not be able to use the app.
With Donald Trump entering the White House on Monday, before the start of his second term, TikTok is going to be shut down in America. According to the Washington Post, Trump is preparing to issue an executive order to push the ban on Tiktok not to January 19, but to 60 to 90 days after that. However, there is a question as to how he can legally issue such an order .
Quoting a source familiar with Tiktok's plans, NBC News also said that the company is preparing to stop operations from Sunday. In the law signed by President Joe Biden last April, TikTok's American operating company must either sell to a non-Chinese entrepreneur or be banned. For this, the US government gave a deadline of January 19 to ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
Bytedance has filed a case in the Supreme Court alleging that the law violates freedom of expression and does not provide equal opportunities in business. During the hearing of the case, the judges emphasized the US government's suspicions that TikTok was collecting data of US users and giving it to the Chinese government. This also shows that ByteDance's desire to overturn the law that could impose a ban will not be fulfilled.
In America, famous billionaires such as Elon Musk, YouTuber Mr. Beast, Shark Tank America investor Kevin O'Leary, and billionaire Frank McCourt have reported that they want to buy Tiktok's American ownership . According to NBC News, Tiktok responded that it will wait for the Supreme Court's decision and if it does not come in its favor, it will close the service rather than sell the American ownership.
