Electricity leakage limited to 12.73 percent

Nepal Electricity Authority has reduced the leakage to 12.73 percent. According to the information submitted by the Authority to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the electricity leakage of the system was limited to about 12.73 percent in the last financial year.

The authority has grasped the principle that reducing leakages is also about making money. Until eight years ago, 25.78 percent electricity was leaking in the system. In the financial year 2079/80, electricity leakage was 13.46 percent.

It is mentioned in the details that leakage was limited to 12.73 percent in the financial year 2080/81. The authority made a profit of 14.46 billion in the last financial year. In the financial year 2072/73, the authority was in a net loss of eight billion 89 million in the same year, in 073/74, the authority started a history of profit by earning a net profit of one billion 50 million.

Authority has achieved great success in electrification in eight years. In the financial year 2072/73, the electrification status was only 58 percent. Electrification, which was 89.8 percent three years ago, has now reached 99 percent. Ghising, the executive director of the

authority, informed that special attention has been given to further improvement of the financial situation, good governance within the organization, electrification to deliver electricity to every citizen's home, expansion and strengthening of the infrastructure structure for transmission and distribution to make the electricity supply sufficient, reliable, quality and safe. Similarly, he said, the work has been carried forward with high priority on the promotion of large hydropower projects towards production, increase in internal consumption and export of excess electricity.

After the country became free from load shedding and regular electricity supply started, to address the challenges that arose in the system and to expand, improve and automate the infrastructure of the system for reliable and quality electricity supply to consumers, the task of automating it through technology has been carried forward with special priority. In the credit rating done by ICRA Nepal, the authority is continuously getting a 'Double A Plus' rating.

In the rainy season of the last financial year, the excess electricity consumed in the country was exported to India and earned Rs 17.7 billion. In the last financial year, Nepal has succeeded in making history by exporting electricity worth about 130 million more than imports, from being a net importer of electricity to becoming a net exporter of electricity.
