Even after 30 years of construction, the Everest Road (Gaighat-Diktel) is incomplete. Even though various construction companies have started work, the road remains incomplete after being stalled. Various construction companies started the work by dividing the road into four sections. But after being stalled without work, the contract was broken and new bids were called and the contract reached the stage.

The contract was terminated after the construction work of Diyale-Foxingtar road section (32 km) in Udaipur, Foxingtar-Simpani (26 km), Simpani-Mahure (22 km) and Foxingtar-Simpani road section in Khotang was stalled.

Pashupati Gyawali, head of the Gaighat-Diktel project said that new bids have been invited for Foxingtar-Simpani (26 km) and Simpani-Mahure (22 km) and reached the agreement stage.

Divyajyoti Construction Pvt Ltd Dhading on Foxingtar-Simpani road section and Rayamazhi Construction Pvt Ltd Kathmandu on Simpani-Mahure road. Gyawali said that the purpose of the financial and technical proposal of the contract has been made public and other processes are in progress. "The intent of the financial and technical proposal has been made public," Gyawali said, "After all the processes are completed, the agreement will be made within the next 15 days."

The contract was broken after various construction companies got hold of the contract for Gaighat-Diktel road construction. Under this, Khampachi JV of Devnarayan Mainachulinas had taken the contract to be completed by July 10, 2077, but the contract was terminated in August 2079 after the Phoksingtar-Simpani road in Khotang was blocked.

The physical 62 percent and financial 60.3 percent progress of the road is seen after the agreement was signed on July 11, 2073 at a cost of 49 crores. After the complaint filed by the construction company in the Patan High Court against the decision to terminate the contract, the High Court again upheld the department's decision in October 2080.

Mainachuli-Siddhisayi-Prakash JV, which had taken the contract for the construction of Foxingtar-Simpani road section, was also terminated after the work was stalled. Although the work started on July 11, 2073 with an agreement to be completed by July 10, 2077 at a cost of around 11 million, only 80 percent physical and financial progress has been seen.

The contract was also broken in August 2079. In addition, the construction company gave a judgment in October 2080 upholding the department's decision in the complaint given for an interim order against the decision to terminate the contract in Patan High Court.

Bharat Construction-Siddhisai JV, which took the contract for the construction of Simpani-Mahure (22 km) road, was terminated on January 29 after the contract was completed by June 30, 2077. The physical and financial progress of the road section, which was started at a cost of around 460 million, has been seen at 43.62 percent.

According to Dinesh Rai, Ward Chairman of Majhuwagadhi Municipality-14, Diktel Roopakot, the workers belonging to the construction company under this road section ran away without paying even the amount of daily consumables they had taken from the locals.

On the Diyale-Foxingtar road section (32 km) of Udaipur, Kanchenjunga Golden Goods signed an agreement on August 12, 2073 to complete it by August 10, 2075, but the contract was terminated on January 2, after the work was stalled. The Gaighat-Diktel road project has reached 82.60 percent of the physical and financial progress of the road, which was started at a cost of 310 million, according to Gaighat.

The Gaighat-Diktel road, which was started in the year 2051 during the time of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari, has not yet been completed. At that time, the road started at the initiative of the then Minister of State for Transport, Ashok Kumar Rai, who was elected from Khotang 3, was not connected to the Terai. Locals complain that the development of the district has been hindered because the road was not built on time.

Flooded Ballybridge

Belybridge connection on the Sunkoshi river at the border of Khotang and Udaipur in Foxingtar under the Everest highway has reached its final stage. After the bridge at Foxingtar was swept away by the flood on October 12, a bailey bridge was installed at that place.

Pashupati Gyawali, the head of the Gaighat-Diktel road project, said that the work is being completed by December 25. Although the bid was invited for the Bely Bridge at a cost of Rs 1 crore 29 lakh 46 thousand 77, Aryan Construction Multipurpose Pvt Ltd Udaipur Katari took the contract for Rs 1 crore 2 lakh. The construction company had an agreement on December 28 to be completed by December. A 50-meter belay bridge will be connected at that place.

Belybridge connects Khotehang Rural Municipality-9 Lichkiramche and Rautamai Rural Municipality-6 Amaptar in Udaipur. After the construction of Beili Bridge, Khotang will be directly connected with Terai. Rajan Acharya, president of Khotang Industry and Commerce Association, said that this will also reduce the prices of other commodities including consumer goods. "It is cheaper by three rupees per kg after loading, unloading and carrying," said Acharya, "It is also a relief to have three rupees cheaper per kg."
