Only 7.8 meters of the Siddhar Baba tunnel in Palpa under the Siddharth highway is left to be dug. Siddhababa Surung Marg Planning Office said that one and a half meters will be left to be dug for 'break through'.

Prabhat Kumar Jha, director of the Quality Research and Development Center under the Road Department, said that the 'break through' would be done in the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. "Initially, we were preparing to break through on January 2nd," he said. The Planning Office has informed that the time has been moved later.

three "cross passages" have been constructed as emergency doors. All the three cross passages have been 'break through'. The total distance of the said cross passages is 441 meters. The length of the main tunnel is 1,126 meters. Director Zha said that with one and a half meters left to dig, the stone soil that came out by using explosives will be cleaned.

It is constructed to be able to pass through a tunnel from near Siddhababa Mandir and exit towards Palpa near Tinau Hydropower. The construction of the tunnel was started as an alternative after frequent landslides on this road section and accidents started to increase. Four km of this section falls within the landslide prone area. The contract for the tunnel was signed in February 2078 so that it can be built within five years. So far, the progress of the overall project is 38.85 percent.

The contract was taken by China State Construction Engineering Company for 7 billion 34 crore 21 lakh rupees. Its duration is upto 083 February . As compensation for the delay caused by tree cutting, the builders have demanded an extension of 9 months . Director Jha says that no decision has been made about this.
