The pre-feasibility study of the Dumkibas-Bardghat tunnel under the Chiabari-Khurkot and Narayangadh-Butwal road sections of Sindhuli under the BP highway has been completed. Now, as there is daily traffic in this section, the demand for fast construction is rising from the local level. But the implementation has not been done yet.

The demand of the local people's representative is that a tunnel should be constructed in the Chiabari-Khurkot section due to the long distance and the number of roundabouts.

Last Baisakh, when they went to 'break through' Sunkoshi-Marin diversion tunnel, the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a team including local people's representative demanded to proceed with the construction process of the studied tunnel. The tunnel will start from the foothills above the tea fields of Kamalamai municipality-2 and will exit at the lower bara of Golanjore rural municipality-7. There are many roundabouts on this stretch of road. Passengers feel uncomfortable during the journey .

The police say that there is a risk of accidents in this section due to many turns. If the Chiabari-Khurkot tunnel is constructed, the distance of Terai with Ramechhap, Dolakha, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Solukhumbu will be shortened. Quality Research and Development Center has done feasibility study of this tunnel in financial year 076/77. According to the study of the financial year 2074/75, it is mentioned that the distance will be 4.90 km. But Prabhat Kumar Jha, director of the center, said that the distance and cost will be determined during the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR). According to the pre-feasibility study, it is mentioned that the Khurkot-Chiabari tunnel will cost 16.8 billion. If the Chiabari-Khurkot road tunnel is constructed, the distance of BP highway to Nagbeli road will be reduced to less than one third.

It is claimed that the distance between Chiabari-Khurkot road is currently 29.8 km and will be reduced to 8.5 km if the tunnel is constructed. Now it takes one to one and a half hours to cover that distance. If the tunnel can be constructed, the distance will be covered in 6 minutes. It will be the fastest and shortest route to Terai District. 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles pass through this section daily. During the festival, 7 to 10 thousand vehicles travel every day.

There is a similar problem road section, Narayangadh-Butwal . There is more problem in the southern part of Nawalpur under this road. This section has more ups and downs . Traffic jams happen even when the cargo vehicles arrive at the hill. Similarly, the risk of accidents is also high as there are many tourists. Therefore, a study has been done to construct a tunnel as an alternative in this section. The pre-feasibility study of Dumkibas-Bardghat tunnel has also been completed. According to a study in 080, its total distance is 5.3 km. According to the preliminary study, 38 billion 69 million rupees are required for its construction. According to the study, the construction of these two tunnels will cost 54.77 billion rupees.

Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Keshav Kumar Sharma said that although about two dozen tunnels have been studied, these two tunnels have been given the first priority for construction. "Studies have been made of many tunnels," he said, "but the ministry's first priority is the Khurkot-Chiabari and Dumkibas-Bardghat tunnels, which have high traffic volumes."
