The Nepal Electricity Authority is going to provide the necessary electricity for the construction of roads in Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-8 Mandu Maltabensi and Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-3 Cisneri Kogte area of Makwanpur under the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh Expressway (Fast Track) through an alternative arrangement.

In order not to affect the construction of the fast track due to the lack of electricity, the authority has made alternative arrangements and has proceeded with the work to supply electricity as quickly as possible. There is no problem in electricity supply to the residents of that area.

In Mandu Maltabensi and Cisneri Kogte areas of the fast track, the authority is going to make alternative arrangements to supply the necessary electricity for the construction of bridges, gallery tunnels and other structures so that the construction is not affected. The fast track will require about 12 MW of electricity in the region. Construction is being done in four packages in that area.

Under the alternative arrangement of electricity supply, the 66 kV line from Kulekhani first hydropower station Dhorsing to Mandu will be put into operation at 11 kV.

The authority said that the 22.5 MVA power transformer in Jageda in Kathmandu will be taken to Dhorsing substation and connected there, and through it, the necessary power supply for the fast track will be given.

At Dhorsing substation, for the local power supply, the 5 MVA power transformer is currently running at full load, so it is not possible to supply more power, so another large capacity transformer is about to be added. The 22 megawatt Bagmati Khola Small Hydropower Project operated by Mandu Hydropower was shut down due to the floods and landslides that occurred on October 11 and 12.

After that, electricity supply has not been done in that section under fast track. The flood that occurred in Bagmati washed away the switchyard that transmits the electricity produced by the project and the equipment including the power transformer kept there by the authority.  The electricity produced by the

project was channeled through 66 KV transmission line to Dhorsingh and through 33 KV line to Malta Substation in Lalitpur. Fast Track was supplied through an 11 kV line from Malta Substation.

Another two megawatt Khanikhola hydropower project in operation in Lalitpur was also connected to Malta substation. But after the landslide also damaged the mine shaft, the Malta substation became without power source. Because of this, the power supply of the fast track was stopped. The authority says that both projects are currently being reconstructed.

After the Nepali Army informed that there was a problem in the construction of fast track due to lack of electricity supply, a high-level team including Executive Director of the Authority Kulman Ghising, Deputy Executive Director of Distribution and Customer Service Directorate Manoj Silwal also conducted an on-site inspection of the Mandu Maltabensi area last Monday.  The

team visited the Wagmati Khola small hydropower project and Dhorsing substation under reconstruction and discussed various options for immediate power supply with the officials concerned. Work is underway to rebuild the project by March. After the project is operational, electricity will be supplied according to the old system.  Until the

project is operational, adding a power transformer to Dhorsing substation and charging the Dhorsing-Mandu line to 11 KV to supply power to the fast track is an appropriate option for the time being, says Executive Director Ghisingh.

The project work of Gaurav should not be affected. Supply should be provided through alternative arrangements till power generation starts from flood damaged projects. Let's start work for this immediately,' Ghising said.
