5 trillion 43 billion permanent assets (investment) of the private sector have been seen in hotels and restaurants, which are considered to be the main infrastructure of the tourism sector.
The results of the hotel and restaurant survey published by the National Statistics Office on Wednesday showed that the private sector's permanent assets (investment) in establishments related to accommodation and food for tourists, including hotels and restaurants, are worth 5 trillion 43 billion 250 million. Of this, 28 percent of loans and investments are in the financial sector.
The survey has shown that this sector has added value worth about 1 trillion 9 billion 271 million to the economy of Nepal. These establishments are producing services worth 3 trillion 26 billion 1 crore by spending a cost equal to 2 trillion 16 billion 73 billion.
Hemraj Regmi, spokesperson of the National Statistics Office, said that the number of businessmen and partners actively involved in this sector is 387,000. 44 percent of investors are women and the remaining 56 percent are men. He also said that there are around 160,000 employees working regularly on salary and wages in this sector. It has been seen that these institutions have provided 20 billion 61 crores annually to the employees in terms of salary, wages and benefits.
This survey was conducted by surveyors in star hotels and resorts registered with the tourism department across the country. Similarly, short-term accommodation areas and food service establishments with a workforce of more than 10 people or more were included in the survey. In which 142 thousand 223 hotels and restaurants providing accommodation and food services were surveyed.
The survey conducted from July 2079 to June 2080 did not include food and lodging houses operated in educational institutions, schools, colleges, dormitories and offices, monasteries, monasteries, hospices and collective housing houses. Street stalls, open-air food activities are also not covered in the survey.

According to Binayak Shah, president of Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), among all the hotels covered by the
survey, hotels ranging from star to tourist level have the capacity to provide 10,000 beds per day. We can serve 3.5 million tourists annually. "Nepali hotels have been able to serve 3.5 lakh tourists based on the number of tourists staying, depending on the type of beds in a room," said Shah.
It has been found that 22 lakh 34 thousand guests can take service at a time towards the restaurant. "When people go out to eat at once, the seating of restaurants operating within Nepal has shown the ability to provide hospitality to 2.2 million people at a time," said spokesman Regmi.
Not all hotels and restaurants are included in the registration process of the Nepal government. The survey report showed that about 37 percent were operating without registration.
