Since there are not enough job opportunities in the country, the number of Nepalis who go abroad in search of reliable income is increasing every year. Some of those who have returned from abroad have even become self-employed by using the skills they learned during their foreign employment.
In the financial year 2080/81, the number of people who went to foreign employment after receiving new labor approval from Karnali province is 18 thousand 670, and 24 thousand 175 with re-labor approval, according to the report of Rashtra Bank.
In the last financial year, 5 thousand 394 people have taken the labor permit from Salyan, the highest number in Karnali. Similarly, 448 people from Dolpa have taken work permits.
In the financial year 2080/81 alone, it is mentioned in the report of Nepal Rastra Bank that more than 700,000 people from all over the country went for foreign employment. According to National Bank's Regional Economic Activity Study (Karnali Province) annual report, the number of people who went for foreign employment in the last financial year was 741 thousand 297. Out of which 80 thousand 172 are women.
According to Rashtra Bank, this number includes new labor permits and re-labor permits. By the financial year 2079/80, 771 thousand 327 people had received work permit. In the review year, the share of Karnali province in the grant of visa for foreign employment is 3.26 percent. The National Bank has mentioned in the report that most of the workers who return to the country from foreign employment take re-employment approval.
Most of those who go for foreign employment are unskilled workers . According to the data of Rashtra Bank, last year 145 thousand 547 unskilled workers went for foreign employment . Similarly, 5 lakh 32 thousand 123 skilled workers went abroad for employment. Similarly, 60 thousand 123 semi-skilled and 2 thousand 772 professional people went to foreign employment There are also 732 highly skilled workers among those who go for foreign employment.
