It has been seen that the private sector has invested 5 trillion 43 billion in hotels and restaurants, which are considered to be the main infrastructure of the tourism sector. The results of the hotel and restaurant survey released by the National Statistics Office on Wednesday showed that the private sector has invested 5 trillion 43 billion 258 million in establishments related to accommodation and food for tourists including hotels and restaurants.
Of this, 28 percent of loans and investments are in the financial sector.
The survey has shown that this sector has added value worth about 1 trillion 9 billion 271 million to the economy of Nepal. These establishments are producing services worth 3 trillion 26 billion 1 crore by spending a cost equal to 2 billion 16 billion 73 billion. Hemraj Regmi, spokesman of the National Statistics Office, said that the number of businessmen and partners actively involved in this sector is 387,000. 44 percent of investors are women and the remaining 56 percent are men. He also said that there are around 160,000 employees working regularly on salary and wages in this sector. It has been seen that these institutions have provided 20 billion 61 crores annually to the employees in terms of salaries, wages and facilities.
This survey was conducted by surveyors in star hotels and resorts registered with the Department of Tourism and sample selection methods across the country. Similarly, short-term accommodation areas and food service establishments with manpower of more than 10 people or more were included in the survey. In which 142 thousand 223 hotels and restaurants providing accommodation and food services were surveyed.
The survey conducted from July 2079 to June 2080 did not cover the food and lodging houses operated in educational institutions, schools, colleges, dormitories and offices, monasteries, monasteries, Dharamshalas and collective housing houses. The survey did not cover activities related to street stalls and open-air food.
Permanent investment (property) is the highest in Wagmati 2 trillion 41 billion and the least in Karnali 11 billion. After Vagmati, Gandaki has an investment of 1 trillion 6 billion 64 crores. It was seen in the survey of the office that 53 billion was invested in Lumbini in the third place. According to spokesman Regmi, there are 161,100 rooms from star hotels to homestays operating across the country. Among them, there are 8,496 star hotels, 1,750 tourist hotels, 3,829 resorts and 3700 homestays. 'The calculator has not shown how many beds are in these rooms,' said Regmi, 'because there are two, sometimes even more beds, the survey does not include how many beds are there for tourists across the country.' It has been seen in the survey that the hotel charges 6900 rupees per day per room stay. Tourism businessmen have been saying that the private sector has the capacity to serve 3 million tourists annually in Nepal. Among all the hotels included in the survey, hotels ranging from star to tourist level have the capacity to provide 10,000 beds per day, according to Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) president Vinayak Shah. We can serve 3.5 million tourists annually. "Nepali hotels have been able to serve 3.5 million tourists based on the number of stays of tourists, the type of beds in a room," said Shah. It has been found that 22 lakh 34 thousand guests can take service at a
restaurant at a time. "When people go out to eat at once, the seating of restaurants operating within Nepal has shown the ability to provide hospitality to 2.2 million people at a time," said spokesman Regmi.
Not all hotels and restaurants are included in the registration process of the Nepal government. The survey report showed that about 37 percent were operating without registration.
