The government has brought the National Urban Policy, 2081 after a decade and a half. The Cabinet meeting held on December 28 approved the National Urban Policy. According to the Ministry of Urban Development, the urban policy approved after years is yet to be published in the gazette.
The National Urban Policy, 2064 has been repealed and a new policy has been introduced. In particular, four strategies have been adopted in the policy. Union, state and local government responsibilities have also been removed. A strategy has been adopted to develop an advanced national urban system and urban form, to expand the access to uplifting urban infrastructure, to maximize the mobilization of resources for systematic urban development, and to enhance intersectoral coordination and urban governance. It is also mentioned in the policy that definitions and standards of terminology such as mega city, smart city, new city, Himalayan city, aerocity, edible green city, urban economic corridor will be prepared. There is also a policy to encourage the development of fast, semi-fast and local multimodal transport infrastructure and transit-oriented development in cooperation and coordination with stakeholders to enhance transport access between cities and settlements. It is mentioned in the policy that the integrated development of the greater urban area and the urban economic corridor will be done.

Food and fuel storage infrastructure will be developed to last at least three months in the city.
