India allowed to import an additional 350 MW of electricity

Nepal is going to import an additional 350 MW of electricity from India for winter. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, India has allowed Nepal to import electricity till next June. After the onset of winter, the flow of water in rivers and streams decreases and electricity generation decreases, so imports are being made from India to meet domestic demand.

Nepal, which sells electricity to India and Bangladesh in winter, has to rely on India in winter. The authority says that since there is no reservoir project, India will have to depend on it for a few more years in winter. There is a separate agreement between India and Nepal to import insufficient electricity from India every year in winter. Among them, the electricity contract brought from India's competitive market should be renewed every year.

Last November, India has allowed 654 megawatts of electricity from Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line and 54 megawatts from Tanakpur transmission line. At the same time, the authority asked for permission to bring 600 megawatts of electricity from the 132 kV transmission line. Rajan Dhakal, director of the electricity trade department of the Authority, said that despite the request of importing 600 MW of electricity from four transmission lines of 132 KV, India has allowed the import of 350 MW of electricity.

Permission was sought for import of 450 MW electricity from Kataiya (India)-Kuswa (Nepal), Raxaul-Parwanipur and Gandak (Nepal)-Ramnagar (India) transmission lines. But India has allowed import of only 300 MW. Similarly, Dhakal said that despite requesting for import of 150 MW electricity from 132 KV Mainhia (Nepal)-Sampatia (New Nautanwa, India) transmission line, India allowed only 50 MW.

Dhakal says that India has allowed to import electricity for 20 hours till March 15.

He said that India will not export electricity during the evening. 'India does not allow import of electricity from 5 pm to 9 pm,' he said, 'After March 15, it is possible to import electricity from 6 am to 6 pm.' It will be allowed to import megawatt electricity. 600 megawatts from Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line, 54 megawatts from Tanakpur, 300 megawatts from Kataiya-Kuswa, Raxaul-Parwanipur and Gandak-Ramnagar transmission lines and 50 megawatts from Mainhia-Sampatia will be imported.
