The study of BP highway is being completed, construction will cost 9.5 billion

While the study started for the construction of the flood-damaged BP highway is being finalized, the road department has not yet been able to complete the budget. If the construction is delayed, the rains will start again. At that time the current temporary structure will not work. According to the department, most of the roads have been constructed by diluting the river.

Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport said that the study report has reached the final stage. "So far, it has been estimated that the construction will cost 9 billion 62 million," he said, "later, if the construction structure changes, this amount may be lower."  He said that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is also interested in making

. "Not entirely, Zaica seems willing to work on some parts of the road section," he said, "this issue is under discussion." Sharma said that it took time to finalize the study team as it was suggested to add the missing subjects while the study was being conducted to go into construction.

"The work of study will be completed within the push," Sharma said, "We are telling the Ministry of Finance for the budget." For the budget, the issue of requesting the budget from the Disaster Management Fund of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs has not yet been finalized.

Sharma said that there is also a preparation to construct the highway by taking a small concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank. "There is a discussion about providing the authority's fund budget," he said. He says that there will be no problem in proceeding with the contract process from February if all the work has gone ahead as planned.

The director general of the road department Ramhari Pokharel said that the budget for the construction of this road has not been finalized yet due to the high traffic volume. "So far, the budget has not been managed," he said, "due to which there is still confusion about the budget." He said that now is the time of construction and when the summer season starts again, it will be a problem to work.

"During the rainy season, we were planning to use some sections of the Madhyapahari highway as an alternative route," Pokharel said, "There are landslides everywhere, as soon as one landslide is removed, there is a danger of another landslide." He argued that it would be appropriate to temporarily manage the current road and use it during the dry season. "Now the study has been carried out to go into construction," he said, "After submitting the study report, it will be submitted to the department, after looking at it, a decision will be made as to how to proceed."

In the preliminary study, it was estimated that the construction of the BP highway would cost around 7 billion rupees. After the budget is managed, the road department is planning to award the contract so that it can be built within three years. Director General Pokharel claims that although the contract process started in February, the construction work will start in May.

The 12 km road of Kavrevanjang-Nepalthok section has been damaged by the landslide that occurred from October 10 to 12. Its 8.7 km stretch of road has been washed away by Roshi river. At present, temporary diversions have been made and the means of transport have been operated.

But due to the high volume of traffic, there is a problem of traffic jam every day. There is a problem on the road from Chowkidanda in Kavre to Mulkot. More than that, the problem is in Chowkidanda to Nepal wholesale section.

Floods have caused less damage in the Sindhuli section and more damage in the Kavre section. Under the BP highway, 158 km from Dhulikhel in Kavre to Bardibas in Mahottari has been constructed with the help of the Japanese government. It took about 20 years to build. The construction of this road was started in 1996 and completed in 2015, which was handed over to Nepal by Japan to connect the capital with Eastern Terai.
