The Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, has said that other sectors should be progressed in parallel for the overall economic development of the country, rather than relying on any one sector such as information technology. He said that in order to lead Nepal towards a path of balanced and sustainable economic development, knowledge economy and information technology (IT) sector should be prioritized, but sectors like agriculture, tourism, hydropower, and industry should also be expanded together.

He pointed out that relying on IT as the basis for economic development is as risky as depending on remittances. Speaking at the 'Policy Conclave 2024: Transitioning to Knowledge Economy' program organized by think tank organization Sarbangin Development Study Center (IIDS), Governor Adhikari said that knowledge economy and IT sector are new in Nepal. According to him, the promotion of digital economy and small investments The dollar card launched by the National Bank of India has been very effective.

"The dollar card has become even more useful for people working in IT, they can invest in small apps," he said, "It's very useful." More than 50 thousand students and many people are using it.'

Governor Adhikari is of the opinion that by exporting knowledge-based services like information technology, Nepal can remove obstacles in the export of other goods due to the landlocked situation. "If we invest carefully in this area, we can get great benefits in the future," he added. However, the official stressed that all sectors should be promoted together as there will be problems if only special sectors are considered as the basis of development in Nepal's economy.

'Now our dependence on remittances is a big challenge, it can cause problems at any time,' he said, 'so it is appropriate for us to give equal priority to agriculture, tourism, industry and service sector.' Said that Edison should be prioritized.

His argument was that if natural resources can be exported with further processing, economic benefits will increase. According to the official, high-cost infrastructure projects such as Budighand's hydropower are very necessary for the country's energy security. He said that the airport and hydropower projects in various districts will bring long-term benefits and bring stability to the economy.

For the economic plan until 2100, the official said that investment in the knowledge economy, innovation and infrastructure sector will play an important role.
