Diesel import from Birgunj decreased, petrol increased

Import of diesel through Birgunj channel has decreased while import of petrol has increased. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the import of diesel has decreased by 1.13 percent in the five months of the current financial year.

 

During that period, revenue collection has also decreased by 6.91 percent. In the five months of the year 2081/82, 366,719 kiloliters worth 32 billion 35 billion 26 lakh 88 thousand were imported.

In the same period of last year, 370,920 kiloliters of diesel worth 40 billion 365 million 15 thousand rupees was imported. During the five months of the current year, the import of diesel has decreased, but the import of petrol has increased. 

During the five months of the current year, 188,345 kiloliters of petrol worth 16,212,270,000 rupees has been imported. During the same period last year, 162,46 kiloliters of petrol worth 16,398,060,000 rupees was imported. Compared to the five months of the previous year, the import of petrol increased by 16.23 percent and revenue increased by 12.52 percent during the same period of the current year. 

Diesel is being imported from Motihari-Amlekhganj petroleum pipeline, while petrol is being imported from tankers. Nepal Oil Corporation has started preparations to bring petrol and kerosene through the pipeline within this month. 

Meanwhile, Ravi Singh, the president of the Federation of Nepal Construction Professionals, has said that the consumption of petroleum products will gradually increase as the time for infrastructure construction has started.
