Indian-origin technology entrepreneur Sriram Krishnan will be appointed as the Trump administration's senior policy advisor on artificial intelligence (AI). After Vivek Ramaswamy, Kash Patel and Jay Bhattacharya, Krishnan has become the fourth Indian-American to receive a key political appointment in the next four years of the Trump administration.
Krishnan's appointment is yet another achievement for the Indian-American community, which has been increasing its presence and influence in American technology and business sectors as well as political roles. In recent times, businessmen of Indian origin have increased their presence in the American political arena along with major American companies . Before Krishnan, Trump appointed Indian-origin businessman Vivek Ramaswamy as the minister of the Ministry of Government Efficiency . Kash Patel has been proposed as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Jay Bhattacharya as the director of the National Institutes of Health.
Similarly, Ajit Pai, who played an important role in the Federal Communications Commission during Trump's previous tenure, famous lawyer Harmeet Dhillon and Seema Burma, who intervened in health policy, are also expected to return to important responsibilities with Trump's return to the White House. About one and a half percent of the 350 million American population, i.e. about 5.1 million, are Americans of Indian origin in the United States.
Many major companies including Google, Microsoft, IBM, Adobe, Starbucks, Sunel, YouTube have leaders of Indian origin. Sriram Krishnan, who became Trump's AI advisor, was born and raised in Chennai, India. He has worked in big companies like Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook and Snapchat and has risen up in the technology sector . His most recent role was as a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm. Through this he has been investing in AI and latest technology.
As an AI policy advisor, Krishnan will be responsible for shaping the US government's AI development and policymaking . As discussed in the media, his main goals will be to maintain America's leading role in AI, encourage innovation, and regulate the ethical and social impact of AI technology. Due to his close relationship with Elon Musk, Krishnan is more in the news. Technology experts expect that Musk, who has been advocating innovation in AI and technology, will benefit more from the appointment of his favorite person.
